Should cheating be illegal?

In my opinion, yes.

Aside from the obvious betrayal of trust and initial ♥♥♥♥ feeling, it can be horrible for the victim's confidence, mental health, and can affect the way they view the opposite sex negatively. Cheating also tends to be a repeating behavior in those who practice it, rather than a one off occurrence, meaning being charged for it and having it on a cheater's criminal record would protect people from accidentally becoming the next victim.

The primary purpose of the criminal justice system should be rehabilitation. However why would someone get help for something if their friends don't pressure them? Why would their friends pressure them to change their ways unless it's in writing that you aren't supposed to do it and they know beyond a reasonable doubt that you did something bad? If it can be known with that much certainty then it shouldn't be the sole job of people to get their friends to change before they hurt someone else.

Violations aren't criminal but they are illegal. Usually they are traffic issues but the idea could be expanded.

Yes. In general it is sad that physical abuse gets punished (which is good) but mental abuse does not. Cheating is mental abuse and in todays world the amount of cheating is incredible high. Really sad that people do that. There is never an excuse or reason to do that.

They still exist in quite a few States although they are rarely if ever enforced, and the definition varies a lot as does the punishment.

funny how trans people have been allowed to compete in higher leagues in their preferred categories for years now and yet there hasn't been any major overtaking of trophies by trans women

There's really no nice way to put this, but men are physically superior to women. It's not a small superiority either, men completely dominate women to the point where an average 13-14 year old boy can outmatch an average athletic woman, not to mention what a 30-40 year old man can do since that's when they are at their peak. That's why trans women will have an insane unfair advantage, since they act as men in sports.
