Filthy Frank a.k.a Joji is not saying the truth.
As a teenager, I watched " Filthy Frank " on YouTube. The guy was always the extreme and funny due to doing what most people would not do or say what most would not say. He was in this character for quite a long time.

Nowadays he is known as Joji, appears as a soft, well spoken guy that women like, makes music and claims this character was never him the slightest, he always disliked the character and it made him depressed and what not.

I call bullshi.... If you do videos like this on YT for this long, you must have some sort of liking for the character you play, for the humour you present and certainly some sort of allegiance with the message you deliver in a humorous way. I strongly doubt this guy is not like this anymore today at all.

Perhaps not in front of the camera as the now likes to earn his money with a more " serious job " as an artist. But I am pretty sure he would still make filthy frank videos with his mates, if it would not ruin his reputation with all the 15-18 years old girls desperately running after him and his music.

What is your take on that ? Not that it matters... I don't watch filthy frank anymore nor do I care about his music. It just came to my mind after reading it somewhere and I thought that there was quite an apparent character change, perhaps only to alter his public image of " racist, homophobe, anti-everything, women hating character of filthy frank " into the opposite in order to survive and not get cancelled rather than because he truly wanted to change his artistic path.

Ppl do get tired with characters at some point, it even happens with actors...
I enjoyed watching Filthy Frank videos but I don't think it's hard to believe he could grow out of that kind of character/behaviour or be a bit embarrassed by it later on in life.

You dont grow out of this shi.. at this age.
i think he's being honest, he always did like making music even before filthyfrank was established as a character, just look up his original channel dizasta music, but now its obviously way more professional and no meme songs are involved but his own personal talent, and i guess he figured being filthy frank was no longer something he found enjoyable so he moved on

he used filthy frank to boost his music career and it worked.

to get noticed in the music industry you either need a lot of luck or to pull a stunt like the filthy frank character to gain a following, then when you turn to your music you already have an established following so you don't need to go through all the hurdles of gaining followers with music alone which is difficult.

I doubt the filthy frank character was initially created with the intention to go into music business lol

Filthy frank is more of a character that ruins your future than anything.

His original channel was dizastamusic, so I’m sure the filthy frank character was not intended to be his original career.

I’m not sure if it’s worth arguing, as your mind is pretty set that filthy frank was also never a character, power to you. As if filthy frank is the perfect ideal human. The reason why it received positive feedback was because, it had succeeded in what it was set out to do, although most people did not get the intended message.

‘Filthy’ Frank. It’s everything and embodies anything a person shouldn’t be, but more than that it echoes and mirrors the microcosm of social media, and what people would act, the jokes people would make, and what they’d do in order to achieve fame/popularity. They’d do anything just to stand out, and this character will carry this purpose, and it’ll prove that this theory is true.

This is in the bio of filthy frank, this isn’t just a preposition. This is how George Miller describes the character, and it’s very accessible information. He also stated that it was similar to his sense of humor in high school, which is another reason as the years went by, he got sick of it. George was 16 when he created dizastamusic, and throughout his entire career as filthy frank, he’d create music samples/parody songs, and he’d have some serious songs on his own personal SoundCloud. It just so happened that it was his YouTube channel that gained popularity, and would become his livelihood, probably until demonetization struck.

it looked like a lot of the videos were being done in a college dorm.

doing stuff you don't actually like for success is the essence of the college experience, and more or less what you're there to prove yourself capable of, so for his output to have become that as well in his eyes it isn't that surprising.

the main release for him seemed to be 'doing what you aren't supposed to,' as that's very much what you're not supposed to do in college. you're supposed to do the same intellectually engaging but still ultimately mindless tasks forever, day in and day out. that's what the degree represents to an employer, a minimum tolerance for that life.

imagine being obsessed over an eceleb

a random washed up one at that
Remember the lesson. Be yourself. Don't try to fake it to make money, you'll be stuck doing fake stuff.
