Why is this forum so negative ?

When I started to write here after years, I was hoping for a little " gamer intellect and wittedness " but I came to the conclusion that the off-topic forum as well as each off-topic language forum are a lot worse than reddit, quora or twitter.

I am not pointing at anyone specifically, but the amount of nonsense being posted on here as well as the amount of uneducated and plain toxic comments even about serious topics on here, is rather shocking and off-putting.

There are a few good people on here who really have a clue about what is going on and try to be very logical, but the majority on here seems to be barely out of elementary school.

What is your take on that ? I am asking the few sane minds left on here.

Because gamers in general are negative. Most of them are going through the phase were they NEED to be Edgelords. And they have not outgrown the phase where friends insult each other as the normal interaction.

As long as you avoid political post, you won't experiences as much negativity, as for acting like a child, some people consider it fun. Figuring out if someone is being rude or teasing is almost impossible to figure out on a chatroom or forum.

It’s not that bad a community. I know it looks that way.

Unless you build up a tolerance for it though it will affect you negatively.

They cant really reign in the hate troll with multiple accounts who hides behind name and shame rule and bunch of other propaganda trolls who have taken residence here. Valve`s moderating change turned this place into same kind of hellhole like other social media sites.

the propaganda trolls are out of control on this forum, they genuinely live on this forum and post on every single political thread and post the entire day on them, also just make a thread about ukraine vs russia and putin fires up 500 bot accounts out of thin air to post

You need to visit the German OT forums to understand what negativity means. Usually any thread which is opened there starts with two pages of mentioning why it´s a bad idea to start the thread, what is against the rules, why it is the wrong forums to write it there, which grammar mistakes were made, questioning the sanity of people, fights between certain individuals which have nothing to do with the topic, etc...

Good reason to not participate there at all - perhaps it has changed, but i don´t think so.

And here i´m actually unsure how many people only write in OT to participate in some political topics about racism, or left vs right stuff, or trans, or climate things, to spread some propaganda. That´s the thing i would rate negative, and perhaps the one or other mental case, but they´re mental, so it only looks negative, but it´s rather sad really. Also let´s not forget that some people are quite young, while there the sad part is that they´re here, and not somewhere else in the first place.

I hope that you view me as someone who is logical, if not rude and off-putting.

I tried to play nice, I really did. I would push back a little bit on some issues that were discussed in here. But recent events in my personal life have really changed my outlook on life.

When Steam opened the forums to religious and political topics, it really did make the Off-Topic forum a rather toxic place.

Personally, I find that sad. Regardless of our political views, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or even mental health, we are all gamers. All of us share a bond of gaming. We are the most diverse community I can think of.

We don't all believe in the same things, I get that. But we do have a love of playing games and talking about games.

Wow, do I agree with you on this one!

I have been applying for SSDI, so I have been unable to work. I am living off of $150 per month that my family gives me. The only times I go out is to buy food, pick up medications, or go see one of my many doctors.

That is why I had a pretty major uptick in posting on OT (and other forums)

Besides gaming and forums, what else do you do to keep yourself occupied?
