Is it rly that incorrect to say "I have to reload the phone"??
So like when you have like a low battery on phone and you go to put the cable on it so that does not die and you say "I have to reload the phone" v:

Like is it really that incorrect to say "I have to reload the phone"? 🤷

"Recharge" is the correct English, but "charge", as evidenced in this thread, has become the common usage.
By definition "charge" is to fill a battery for the very first time, "recharge" is every time after that.
Hehe, if you buy a brand new phone then you charge it for the first time, then recharge. 😁
If that’s the case I’ll yell “RELOADING! COVER ME!” every time I plug in my iPad

Why do you need cover v:
I have to charge the battery in my phone.
I have to charge up the battery in my phone.

The batteries in my phone have died and I have to recharge them.
The batteries in my phone have died and I have to charge them up.

..
"charge the phone" is a shorter way of saying the above.
it's a good point though

Look how "overloaded" charge is with various meaning & definitions and reload is rarely used.
Hehe, a overloaded charge. 😁

Btw load would be more accurate then reload for comparison...?
A reloaded weapon indicates that it was empty before, while a loaded weapon do not..?

say what you want but it sure feels weird for me to hear someone says they want to reload their phone. Like if you didn't tell me reload means charging, I would've assumed you mean restarting your phone since re-load, restart loading.
Hmm - here in the language You could get away with using the term "load" for everything. Probably in English, too.

We have plenty of terms for different actions, which involve another word before "load", but You don´t need them necessarily. And for guns we wouldn´t say "reload", because You don´t do that with modern weapons. You either load, or attach the magazine. While the former would be (literally) "finish loading", or "through loading", (like in chamber the round) and the latter "part loading" if using the correct terms, while we don´t have the "-ing" form.

you generally reload a firearm, or a program on a computer. you don't 'reload' a phone. the usage of the word is incorrect in english.

you can 'charge' a 'phone' and you can 'charge' a magazine, or a rifle. but cannot 'reload' a phone, despite 'charge' and 'reload' being synonym in language.

there's a lot of intrinsic rules that don't make sense in english, and honestly i'm glad to have it as a primary language. otherwise i likely would never have learned it.

i respect the journey, op. i think if english wasn't my first language i'd rather learn japanese or mandarin first lol.

So you cannot charge gun?

Idk what he meant by "charge s rifle or magazine". I've never heard anyone say that. I'm not saying he is wrong, I've just never heard it before

This isn't exactly how it works, but this will probably make it a lot easier to understand.

"Charge" is typically seen as reloading something electrical with power specifically.

Reloading is the same thing only not electrical

If my gun was a laser gun would it be correct if I said “I need to charge my gun”?

I mean if you load a software and the cache doesn't like it then you might have to reload it.

Yes, but that's not really the same thing as replenishing ammo or a phone charge.

In fact, i've been getting that issue with steam a lot lately.

Every time Steam updates, a handful of us always get new issues with Steam. Just when I think 'OK, that Update was perfect, DON'T TOUCH IT'

As in turbo charger, which works with air. It would be a turbo loader here.

The process of "reloading" with an automatic gun is done by the gun itself. One reloads a bolt action rifle, an old cannon, or some black-powder front loader.
Yes it is.

Never seen that word being used in this context before.

You mean recharge.
