Why did everyone suddenly start saying "onus" instead of responsibility?
This is just another one of those irritating things that makes me feel like I Mandella effected my way into another universe exactly like my old one in every way except for one annoying little difference that only I seem to notice. It's like people here forgotten the word responsibility exists! "The onus is on you to make sure your sources are credible" says the teacher in this universe VS. "it's your responsibility to make sure your sources are credible" says the teacher in my original universe. Thoughts? Thoughts from the native inhabitants of the onus universe?

It's quicker to say and write. 2 syllables instead of 6, but means the same thing.

This word has always been in my vocabulary. It is a common English word.

Did I call this the onus universe? I meant the lazy universe where people can't handle spending 0.002 seconds more saying a slightly longer yet more accurate word.

Yes, because you were born in onus universe. I never heard this word in my entire life before I got here about two years ago.

So you want everyone to take 10 minutes to say what they could in 2?

We don't speak like the original English in the old days because it takes too long.

You might want to get out more if you think it's "suddenly used more".

It doesn't take two minutes to say a 6 syllable word sis, laziness should not be an excuse. Plus it's not just changing one word, it's changing the entire structure of a sentence!

It takes 3 times longer.
I've never even heard of the word onus. Wtf.

Fair enough, but there's nothing unusual about this. People from different backgrounds and areas often use language differently. Lots of people on here use American slang that is completely alien to me. I don't hear anybody using terms like "bro" and "dude" even when I visit the UK. I doubt there has been any increase of the word "onus" on the internet over the years. I bet you'd find it was also common on usenet back in the 90s if you did a search. 🙂

Oh my goodness! How ever would you survive saying a word that takes a whole 0.8 seconds instead of 0.26 seconds?! I'm simply asking too much, I see that now. What other words can we shorten? Perhaps we could use grunts and snorts instead of words? Think of all the seconds we could save!

We are of the same universe you and I, if only we could find a way to get back there and stop living in this HELL HOLE with the lazy cave goblins who can't handle words consisting of more than 3 syllables!
If this is the best thing you can think of to complain about you must have a serious problem. Funny idea of hell you have there.

You do realise languages have always evolved over time? Why aren't you speaking in "Ye Olde English" if you hate change so much?

Actually, I'd say that if this is the best thing to complain about, life must be quite wonderful for OP. Must be nice to not run into actual issues/problems like the rest of us mortals.
