Why did everyone suddenly start saying "onus" instead of responsibility?
This is just another one of those irritating things that makes me feel like I Mandella effected my way into another universe exactly like my old one in every way except for one annoying little difference that only I seem to notice. It's like people here forgotten the word responsibility exists! "The onus is on you to make sure your sources are credible" says the teacher in this universe VS. "it's your responsibility to make sure your sources are credible" says the teacher in my original universe. Thoughts? Thoughts from the native inhabitants of the onus universe?

Not heard it because it is not a word. The longest word in the English language is antidisestablishmentarianism.
Well I don't know what the longest is but floccinaucinihilipilification is a real word, it's in the dictionary
Yh your right, but the reason it's never used and nobody knows it is there are easier ways of saying the same thing. Because languages evolve to be easier over time. It just backs up my argument and destroys yours.

Another thing that does the same is the now very common use of acronyms.

Except responsibility isn't one of the longest words in English lol it's not that hard to spit it out. You're just gonna shorten every single word in your vocabulary? What will you shorten vocabulary to?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion
Frequency illusion, also known as the Baader–Meinhof phenomenon or frequency bias, is a cognitive bias referring to the tendency to notice something more often after noticing it for the first time, leading to the belief that it has an increased frequency of occurrence.[1][2][3] The illusion is a result of increased awareness of a phrase, idea, or object – for example, hearing a song more often or seeing red cars everywhere.[4]

I have heard a lot of people say vocab. But it's not me making these words up, it's other people. The faster we can communicate the more efficient everything is.

Ok... and with that all I've gotta say is that your argument is ridiculous. Oh sorry I'll appeal to your vocab, it's 'ridic'.
i dont know what an onus is , is it like onani ?
I like the word

Onus = "on us", synonym = responsibility

I'm sure there's a Latin explanation for the word. But if you ever need the easiest neumonic device, there it is.

It's the brother of anus.
Yes but anus must mean An US?
Why do people use loose when the correct word is lose and put in more work.

It's one of those great mysteries.

So by their logic, it's not a loss, it's a looss

Onus Probandi - Burden of Proof.
One has to prove something.

Responsibility is a different word with a different meaning.
To hold accountable for something.

So you still have to say "Onus", op.

That's the thing; You're not gonna communicate any faster if you can't get your point across.
I, just like many other non-native English speakers have never heard of onus.

If I weren't to read the entire thread and you would've asked me a question including the word onus, not only I'd be confused and reply back asking you to explain what do you mean to ask, but you'd had to form yet another sentence to explain yourself, prolonging the time it takes me to grasp your point and therefore communicate numerous times slower than if you were to use a word I'm familiar with, like responsibility.
