That is not quite true. Nobody is selling the underlying intellectual property rights rights, but you can have ownership of a particular authorized physical copy. That copy can even be resold pursuant to the terms of first sale doctrine. If that wasn't the case, Nintendo would've been able to prohibit Blockbuster rentals during the 1990s, and Game Stop would not be able to sell used copies of games. That's why I buy physical media, and since P.C. games are not usually sold that way why most of my games are on console. Walk into any Walmart and you can buy and own a game, just like you can buy and own a book, a C.D. or anything else.
