We paid but Valve still owns our games.
At the moment, there is no customer support offered by Steam. Nobody you can talk to about anything. As far as I know anyways. My main point on this discussion is that we pay for all of these games yet have no real ownership of them. If Valve decided to drop Steam tomorrow, we would lose access to all of our games. Am I wrong? If so, please tell me how to play the games I've paid for Offline without the Steam App.

Yes you are wrong. Valve already addressed that when Steam goes out you will be given the opportunity to download your games in a DRM free format. You will have to wait for Valve to shutdown Steam officially for this to happen.

Hope that relieves your stress

Another one has woken up from the matrix.

You download the installers directly of the website, you don't need a client for that.

I've been using GoG for over a decade and I've never installed their client.

ok thats sweet news tyvm for this :csgo_gg:
if Valve fails which wont happen steam would be sold off and called smoke or whatever..Steam or Smoke or whatever would only end when the world ends.
I believe, but I might have forgotten, the only thing we own is the account. Not the stuff in it. Might be something in that, but probably not.

Renting is the future for gaming, housing, and everything in between. You will own nothing and be happy.
Imagine if we could give our games (the license) to other people. Lmfao. That would be chaos. xD

I paid for this but don't own it. This is outrageous. It's unfair.

So how do places like GOG fit into this?

I recently stored my entire gog collection on hard disk, so that's a plus. I can install and play without the need for an internet connection or any DRM.
I don't have to worry about "support ending" doomsday scenarios

GOG is great but why are the mainstream publishers like Sony, EA avoid them except for dumping old games on there?

What you folk bought bought are licenses. This is more like a rental in perpetuity than actual ownership.

you paid for a licence to access the games, you don't "own" your games regardless where you buy

That is not quite true. Nobody is selling the underlying intellectual property rights rights, but you can have ownership of a particular authorized physical copy. That copy can even be resold pursuant to the terms of first sale doctrine. If that wasn't the case, Nintendo would've been able to prohibit Blockbuster rentals during the 1990s, and Game Stop would not be able to sell used copies of games. That's why I buy physical media, and since P.C. games are not usually sold that way why most of my games are on console. Walk into any Walmart and you can buy and own a game, just like you can buy and own a book, a C.D. or anything else.
