Do you think humans will keep evolving?

Or do you think we’ve reached our full potential as a species?

Evolution of humans has slowed down but we are still evolving.

The reason is that humans are not facing as much pressure from nature. In a modern and safe society natural selection also known as survival of the fittest is no longer an obstacle like it used to be in the past.

We now possess knowledge about genetics and "tools" that could speed up evolution but it wont be natural selection.

I suspect that humans might soon see evolution "on steroids" ......

Eugenics is a very controversial topic and so is genetic modification but I suspect some will still attempt this.

In 1935 there was a German "breeding" or eugenics program called Lebensborn. After WW2 it was "officially" discontinued but some conspiracy theorists claim that Lebensborn went underground and secretly moved to Argentina and continued until the late 1970s. Then the Lebensborn program was secretly moved to South Africa and continued until the early 2000s. Those conspiracy theorists claim that the Lebensborn program became decentralised and is now secretly being continued by several nations.

It would not surprise me if this is true and Lebensborn have been using artificial genetic manipulation from the moment this first became possible.

Several years ago the first officially known genetically modified children were born in China. The doctor whom did this claims to have modified the genes so the children were born with increased resistances to several deadly diseases, increased physical strength, and increased intelligence. This doctor also claimed that these children will most likely pass on their enhanced genetics if they someday procreate.

Eh, whatever you say, man. It's funny that everything is bad for health, but humans never lived so much as today.
Medical science keeps people alive longer. If I lived a hundred years ago I would be dead already. But that doesn't mean everything is better now and everything is good for you.

Are you denying that cancer and mental illness are much more wide spread now than a couple of generations ago? I notice you ignored that part of my original comment, and have no argument against it.

No, I'm not ignoring or denying anything, it's other people that live in denial and like to romanticize the past. In reality, if they had a time machine and the opportunity to visit the past, they wouldn't last a month without electricity. They would come back to the future in the blink of an eye.

That's completely irrelevant to the topic, or the arguement we were having. Also it's just your opinion, you have nothing to back it up.

Evolution is adaptation. As living beings, we always adapt and evolve in one way or another. This is a slow process so we may not notice it. I can't give many good examples but I'll say that some of today's artists are able to make much more realistic portraits, almost like photos. We are much more intellectually capable in this century. Even our games have become more complex.
Indeed

I thought that was pretty clear but it seems you don't understand what the (side)topic was:

Past VS Present

And yes I have something to back it up, because if people wanted to, they could live like it's 1600 or whatever period they find better. You can sell your phone, computer, fridge, car, all the modern stuff and go live in the countryside for the full experience. But I see no one doing that.
So would you take to an artificial limb if you lost say an arm or a leg?

Keep evolvoing... into what? a form that resembles god, because we have our heads so far up our own orifices we seem to think we are the only ones who can have it and to control the destiny of other species and planets as well?

i'd rather us humans stay as we are, stock level, arrogant and proud of ourselves, at least we can kick the crap out of each other instead of doing it out in the deep space with other intelligence species, just as soon as we can prove they exist first.

Who is to say this planet wasn’t meant to protect us, but to protect other intelligent species from us?

That's not the topic, that's just a tangent you decided to take because after picking an argument with me, it turns out you don't have one. And your backup is completely flawed as usual. A single person could go and live in the woods and avoid society, but only if they live in the right part of the world where the land isn't owned by somebody else. And it would be nothing like living in the 1600's. In the 1600's people still lived in cities, towns and villages. They still had communities, they weren't all loners surviving in the woods.

Have you ever heard of Amish people?

pretty much that's the proof. We got taller and bigger right now thanks to better nutrition and healthcare. Let's just hope we don't devolve to conserve energy because we sit around more these days.

From what I heard Napoleon wasn`t actually short, it was a mixup of measurement units with same name that were different length at two different countries and he was completely normal height.

Well, it's true Napolean's height wasn't abnormal. He was average for the era. But that was still 5'9. We have a lot of people who are still only that size, but taller may be becoming more common. Perhaps the human body uses that abundance of nutrients in different ways. Some bodies attempt to conserve it, and gain weight. Some people's bodies may grow more. I think a lot of it has to do with HOW people act about it in their daily lives. Those who eat one meal a day tend to go into a conservation mode, while those who eat more often, their bodies just dump more of that fuel into the fire and they're more energetic.

We think the planet is there to protect us, yet we can't be bothered to protect it from ourselves. our species is one Brazilian rainforest deforestation away from extinction when the atmosphere changes and we can no longer be tolerated on the planet we thought was there for our protection.

What happens if those good alien species out there that were watching us (hypothetically writing), they see us kill ourselves first and wonder how much of a pity it really was to lose us from the galaxy. they saw so much potential, added diversity and what not and yet we could not find diversity and acceptance in ourselves. That even assumes aliens can even comprehend of think the way way we do.

Hence the meme. He's short today but average height at the time. Oh and the british propaganda calls him short.

Get rid of your mental horse-blinkers. In ages past, whole waterfall was yours to bath in without the need to buy/rent it from a company or government. No borders, no passports, no dictator that threating you as long as you don't keep close to his castle. (think of it like a blackhole; you were safe as long as you keep your distance)

I am sorry that billions have just became acquiescent subs of 21st Century Media.

This is not a DIG at anybody.
you also die from literal scratch without modern medicine. Oh and medical care centuries ago depending on where you live actually hurts you more. Filth litter cities, making the mortality rate so high they only grow because more people come to city than people who die because of the unsanitary conditions. War is basically an annual thing. Famine is also pretty common if your harvest fails. No dictator is blatantly wrong, every era has their own dictators. China always go with this rise and fall cycle exactly because tyrant will eventually rise and have to be taken down. The french revolution literally happens because of the excessive burden the aristocrats put their serfs (at least near paris, counter revolution do happen because not all of them are bad). Also colonialism do exist, so if you're not european during that time, tough luck.

Really personally I prefer to live in this day and age where mortality rate is low and war is quite rare (although that trend may be ending soon since the peace we enjoy is quite an anomaly). But at least in most part of the world, present day is simply way better compared to the past, no matter which year you pick. But hey, if you really do don't mind losing the peace and technology that improve our life to live in the wilderness in some unclaimed teritory, you do you. Everyone got different priorities in life.

There are many lies about the conditions of the past, violence and war are just one due to cope narratives of dishonest people like Steven Pinker.

You wouldn't die from literally a scratch because in the past due to harsh darwinian selection people were stronger. The irony of modern medicine is it farms the weak, it farms decay.
