Yes
I have watched people get into hard drugs and ruin themselves.

I also had a friend who got himself sent to jail because he was stubborn, he would have got away with it in court but he tried shouting the judge down and insulting him.

I learn how people speak to each other, I cant make up my own words and thoughts, I have very little self worth and respect.
I have and it took them 3 years for them to die of alcoholism.
Yes, I see that guy everyday ruinning his life.

Drinking, smoking, gambling will ruin your life at some point.
So I've seen plenty.

Someone I know.

He was a pretty smart guy, got a good trainee job in an IT company of his family member, finished his college degree, was physically healthy.

Then his parents split up, he and his brother's mom abandoned them, the father also abandoned them, he was already 18 or 19, so he did not move in with his grandparents while his younger brother did.

He ended up taking drugs due to his girlfriend at the time coming from a drug addict family, he was involved in various problems, including some crimes, he was not himself anymore wandering around in a large city known for drug gangs and such, he sold his body for drugs and got involved with some pretty nasty people.

This was now almost 20 years ago. He is still messed up, lives in some special home for people with problems, has not worked ever since, does not really talk to anyone, does not really have contact to his family, only belittling himself about what loser he is all day long and messed up every job offer and support people offered him.

He recently ended up in the emergency room almost dying because he got a bad case of tuberculosis.

This someone is my cousin.

A real tragedy and his mother is also not in a much better place.

This was the only time I have seen someone messing up their life this much, this close. This guy had sooooooooo much opportunity, he was offered so much support and help from family members, he had some real skill in IT he could have built on and some real passion for it. But no, he has choosen drugs and to never even try to get back on his feet instead of having a well paying job, a supportive family and a good life in a modern economically strong first world country.

It still bugs me till this day that even now he is not trying, he is in his mit-late thirties and could still get stuff done, but no...he decides to isolate himself in his own little world, accepting the damage that has been caused ages ago instead of trying to fix it.

I also want to mention that he betrayed almost everyone in our family, scamming family members, pulling money out their pockets, stealing property and so on and on... This guy really went from up there to down here. He made my grandparents life hell since he banged at their door at night and appeared there totally tripping, keep getting money from them.

Yes, I've been to a few weddings.

They take about an hour.

We can all at least appreciate the bravery of those velvet ropes.

It would have been much worse without them.
