Apparently, the ESRB (U.S. videogame rating board) wants to implmenent live online facial recognition age estimation surveillance to make sure gamers have the appropriate age for the game.

everytime the tracked subject opens their phone or presses the power button on pc equipped with the scanner you can now create a traceable log of loacation and who is using device

saw this one coming with iphone years ago, we are not animals for your scientific studies to be tracked and collared

first of all it is a very stupid and bad idea that has no place in a society that puts any value on privacy.

secondly, i assume it will be very easy to spoof anyway, either with a literal mask (printed paper if nothing else).
or, without specially authorized hardware, just by feeding a virtual signal into the camera input so to speak, and then either just giving it a clip of a random hollywood actor or by running your own camera through a face filter before feeding it to the camera input.

i am sure someone has already written a paper on this stuff.

I find this especially questionable, since the scanner is usually in a way to cradle the index finger when the phone is held. I appreciate the extra grip, but I don't like the scanning, hence I cover the scanner.

Micro$oft requires OEMs to install webcams on their integrated devices, if they want to sell them with Windows 11.

Thats a simple fix of requiring every monitor to come with a built in camera.
