The Trend of Removing Socialization from Games is Cringe
I just wanted to say that the trend of removing socialization from games is very cringe.

Honestly, I haven't enjoyed games as much as I used to, primarily due to the fact it's extremely difficult to meet anyone nowadays.

Yea, I don't know what the point is, I just remember a time where you could go on almost any game and talk to a bunch of random people in a little chat box.

Better yet, you could go into a game and people would actually talk on voice chat then you would be able to play with them again after the match, maybe make friends lmao idk wild thoughts

I feel you OP. I used to talk a lot in Blizzard chat.

Combination of new rules comes to mind. Also, putting emphasis to make multiplayer games more competitive over casual.

Back then, you could speak whatever goes in your mind and everyone will either laugh or ignore and shrug it off, most of the time conversations tend to continue which made it fun. Now, with the advent of aggressive reporting system, a sensitive crybaby that can’t take banter can report you and you are banned for a week.

what the hell does OP mean by removing "socializaton"?

A good example I can remember is when Destiny 2 launched and they made the decision to remove local text chat because people can be big smelly meanies.

I chat in games sometimes. In my experience, most responses are either insults or trolling. No one wants advice. No one cares about your opinion.

Then there are people that rage the whole time. Blaming the team and ignoring their own faults.

Plus, the rude people that play without push-to-talk. In a room with non-stop background noise. Or they breathe heavily into the mic. Or they just chant slurs. And then you have to stop the game to mute them.

I prefer chat be available. But it seems to draw the worst people into it.

You call it cringe, OP, I call it welcome. I play games to enjoy myself, not to be blasted by toxic asshats that scream every time I do something they don't like. So if games remove things like chats, I'm perfectly fine with that.
What about the "mute" button?
Talk/chat being removed saves me the effort to mute. :cozybethesda:

I have voice and chat disabled in Destiny 2 since day one. Never missed it as I mostly play low-level activities that can mostly be done solo and other people joining could pretty much be bots.

There's still ways to be toxic in D2 out of the chat.

Yeah. I miss text chats. All you can do in Forza is spamming "Nice driving." You can't even change phrases mid-game, only have four per game mode.

If you like socializing then just go out take a walk in the park talk to people irl. Videogames have always been for people who wanted to avoid socialization and this is the only way I like them.
Videogames are better experienced all alone on your own strictly in single player mode.

That would be correct before the internet, but nowadays games are large social spaces and gaming is nowadays centered around social interaction.

the only game I know removing social aspect is total war chat removal, but then again I only play vs AI on total war since I like the grand campaign overall not only the battle, so no loss for me there. Any other example?

learning to behave in video game?
I think multi player game or not,
I learned a lot in video games.
to the point I question the nature of game as a entertainment,

if most game that was made available to me doesn't contain violence,

and, if we are talking about socializing, I am not very interested in what people say to each other in there grinding and violent games.

killing a fish in the real world, doesn't give people violent thoughts,
violent video game is different .

At no point have I ever had a desire to know who the other people were in a multiplayer game.

I don't want to be your friend, just let me play in peace. You are just smarter NPC's in a game to me.

Wow most of the answers here are really surprising/shocking for me .. when i play a multiplayer game of whatever kind, it is first and foremost to interact with other people, chat, voice chat and having fun together is what makes coop games / mmos interesting and fun for me - but since everybody's got their own preferences, I d still say, txt or voice chat - as well as the option to mute it - should definitely be available in any coop/multiplayer game. Imho.

The trend of adding socialization to single-player games over the last decade was cringe.

I just don't understand why people need socialization in video games of all things. It's distracting. How am I supposed to progress when people might pester me?
