Ask an autistic person anything
I'm kinda bored and down, so I wanted to do an AMA. Interested? Then ask me anything.

FYI: I avoid questions and comments that are made as bait just to incite arguments. Other than that, feel free to ask anything as long as it's not breaking any rules or trying to start some sort of drama. Thanks.

I have tried to answer these sorts of questions, and yeah, it never works out. But I think people can safely assume what my answer would be. And, nope, I don't hate anyone, by the way.
Nah i mean sure you may get banned but tbh i did answer alot of these and did get banned on the one answer i expected the least. I feel you really only get banned if you get mass reported.
Ouch, sorry you got banned before. I actually had someone who would follow me around and mass report me all because they did not like my stance on a certain 💉.

The transgender stuff can get you banned. Most other politics is fine though as long as you're reasonably respectful.
What do you mean? like saying that there is only a certain number of genders? or?
Yea just basically expressing the "wrong" view. Regardless of how you say it.

Most politics stuff is fine again if you don't become a jerk about it.

Yup, oh, yeah, I don't do ad hominems. I just said my answer without making personal attacks, and sadly, I would still get a ban for it.

Exactly. Just a couple weeks ago it happened to someone I know as well.
Growing up I wasn't even aware that autism was a thing. In high school in the 90s, I was aware of autism, but I assumed autistic people were all on the more extreme, non verbal end of the spectrum and didn't consider lighter cases were even possible. Today, it seems like every third person I speak to says they're autistic.

Have cases of autism risen, or have we just gotten better at diagnosis? I'm also hearing people say "autism" and "ADHD" in the same breath as part of the same "neurodivergent" thing. How do you feel about that? (I have ADHD, inattentive type, but I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic.)

A more personal anecdote, I've seen increases of incidents in which some people use their claim of autism as a sort of excuse for their poor behavior. (Particularly online.) Whether their claim is legitimate or not, are they giving people with autism a bad rep?

That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. I know all about how the censorship on these forums can be. That's why, when it came to that question, I couldn't give an answer openly because my answer is not accepted here. Also, someone would more than likely come in trying to start a debate war or something. All that sort of thing does is cause division. In a perfect world, you should be able to have these sorts of discussions civilly, but sadly, many people have to resort to ad hominems and then mass-report the other person.
Rem, Ram, or Emilia?

Well, from what I gather back then, there wasn't a spectrum like there is one acknowledged today. You were either autistic or an aspie. Eventually, the aspie title was dropped, and they just opened it up underneath an umbrella, however you say it. It's all now called autism spectrum disorder.

I think it's possible that cases have risen, but I also think that they realized that there is a spectrum. It's not just people who are nonverbal; there are some who can speak some things but not much, and then there are some who can speak normally but have enough issues to qualify them as autistic. For instance, I stutter, but I can still speak. I have social anxiety and have issues socializing, and I also cannot look people in the eye. I also have some other autistic traits. So, ultimately, I think it's better now that there is this spectrum because we are all unique and different in our own way.

Well, when you are autistic, it's not about trying to make an excuse for our behavior but rather the fact that our minds do work differently. For instance, I will never be able to fully empathize with or relate to people who are normal. I don't really have a filter when it comes to what I say. I am blunt. I may not mean to hurt people's feelings when I say things, but sadly, I do often cause hurt. If I do hurt someone, I typically don't understand why or how I hurt them. I have actually cried a lot about that because I want to relate to humanity, but I can't seem to do that. So, I spend a lot of my time getting close to my animals because they just get me. I hope this makes some sense. If not, I can try to expand on it.

Yea it happens worse to some than others. It's nice to think you can use some common sense to navigate the moderation but sometimes you can't see it coming. But if you're decent, and avoid certain subjects you should be good a large amount of the time.

Yeah, I am starting to learn to avoid the bait. Haha.
Really strong and cool thread, thanks for sharing. I dont particularly have questions to ask, rather i find the discussion that is progressing is most interesting.
