Do you prefer brutal games or games without/with less gore?
I like when games are as brutal as possible

Ughh.. Surgery on television is the worst!
It can get even worse when you turn on the news while having a dinner, and they show some videos of surgery.. In such situations, I quickly lose an apetite and feel full almost immediately. :uritona:
No phones/tv/etc during meal time at our house. Period.
Yeah, phones during a meal isn't an option here, and I'm glad that's being the case.
It's a shame, people don't reallize how rude using a phone during any meal is.
People do barely talk to each other during meal times nowadays.. At least as far as I know.

But television.. That one has always been allowed. Sometimes, it is necessary, especially if there's an old western like Vinnetou, Old Surehand, etc..

most of the time i'll agree with this, but there are some cases where it's ok and even needed in some cases, like if we're arranging something after dinner.

I don't mind gore. But I will mind a surgery on television. Change the program already...
I still get PTSD from one one time I saw someone get a prince albert...uncensored...without anaesthesia

I make very little effort to seek out one or the other. If you buy a game based on how much, or how little gore is in it, your priorities are skewed.

I always cranked up the gore setting until recently.

But at some point it becomes annoying. Trepang 2 has the issue where all the blood, particle effects, smoke, and flash makes the screen incredibly muddled, especially in slow-mo.

I'll take minimal gore and dismemberment over cartoonish gore. RDR 2 had the right idea.

Every game should be Mortal Kombat.

I want to see that Goomba's skull shatter on 1 - 1.

I like brutal games. I also like games that arent brutal. Dont think I necessarily like one over the other, but there is a place for both brutal games with tons of core and games without any gore. And anything in between.

Depends on the game. It has to fit the game. If it's just gory for the sake of being gory I have no interest in it.

Games like War of Rights and Red Orchestra/Rising Storm definitely benefit from it and do it in service of the game. War is heck.

It doesn't in of itself improve anything.

I actually like Project Brutality better than regular Brutal Doom, due to the wider weapon and enemy varieties and other gameplay perks. The configurable blood spatters and gibs are secondary.

Also, everyone else stoked for Rise of the Triad Ludicrous Edition?

Of course, that's an entirely different case though.. And that's actually sharing what's on the phone rather than keeping the phone to yourself and browsing your social networks while eating.

I sort of understand. It's just a social rule. Kind of like if someone brings out Cornhole at a family gathering, you're expected to play it for hours with them, et cetera. And in that case I guess the only time you could have phone out at dinner would be from coming to your house alone from work, then there's no need to stand on ceremony.
I'd be surprised if you wouldn't understand it, but pulling out a phone while eating is like telling people that you do wanna eat alone without having to look at their faces.. Indirectly, as that's literally what using a phone during a meal is, isn't it?
Instead of looking at your meal and people, you're looking into the phone.. And therefore even contributing less to the conversation at hand, as your phone gets your focus more and more easily than the people who are talking to you and you're answering to.
It does definitely depend on what's the reason for using the phone, that's something we all do agree with, something that doesn't even have to be mentioned.

I get where you're coming from, but it's a bit outdated, and here's why:
Society has "progressed" to the point where we are glued to our cellphones 24/7. Children grow up attached to their devices from a young age, so it's silly to think they'd even consider it to be rude, when it is the entirety of their life.

People are so accustomed to having the whole world at their finger tips that we've grown a sense of social entitlement. We're at the point where not immediately responding almost comes across as rude. For some people, that doesn't end just because they want to sit down and have a meal. And, to be perfectly frank, there are a lot of times where I'm waiting for a call or message that's far more important than listening to someone talk about what they had for lunch.

You can't oversocialize entire generations, give them devices that keep them permanently connected to the entire world, and then expect them to understand why you feel it's rude for them to not give you their undivided attention.

I'm not saying it's right (I loathe cell phones), but it's the nature of the beast. A kid that has grown up always having a cell phone in his pocket is not going to hold the same viewpoint as someone that remembers what it's like to be able to walk away from the phone.

"Our devices leave us slaves to the priorities of others"

I don't mean any of this as an attack on you, but I really hate hearing people talk about how rude it is to constantly be on the phone. Who bought the kids their phones? Who allows them to be on them 24/7?

Maybe you didn't raise your kids like that, but the kids that are like that were raised like that.

Who is "people"? Who is this broad group being generalized, because this is far from my experience.
