YouTube now Bans People using Adblock.
https://www.tomsguide.com/news/youtube-testing-three-strikes-rule-to-block-users-with-ad-blockers

It's said to be only an experiment, but we know how this ends.

Interesting developments. Reddit asking a fortune for using their API, Twitch seeking exclusive rights to user-generated content through their ToS, Twitter requiring a log-in to just view, YouTube attempting to shut down the Invidious project and now banning people for not wasting resources with corporate propaganda.

Honestly, if YouTube were a company that actually cares about their users, I probably would even pay a couple bucks for their service. But in my eyes, they are just as evil as their parent, which removed their motto "Don't be Evil" a long time ago.

Hopefully, this won't set precedent and is actually the final death rattle of centralised social media. But I don't get my hopes up, there are still enough consoomers out there.

Anyway, here are a few alternatives to YouTube:

PeerTube: https://joinpeertube.org/browse-content
LBRY/Odysee: https://odysee.com/
BitChute: https://www.bitchute.com/

Please note these are for the most part peer-to-peer based, so it's best to use them through a trustworthy VPN to not expose your IP and simply not use them in countries with strict views on P2P, like Germany.

Rumble is a nice alternative as well.
A good alternative for Twitch is Kick but it's still growing. But offers more creative freedom than the degenerate twitch.

they can't defeat ublock. its only a matter of time for them to find a workaround.

Rumble is known to be less strict, but it's still a centralised service. Not sure about Kick. Both of them also appear to be closed-source.

Some PeerTube instances allow for live streaming, but when done in P2P mode, it obviously exposes IP and requires a really good internet connection. There are however instances that allow live streaming as DUL-DDL, but usually require permission granted by the instance owner.
Odysee apparently also has live streaming capabilities.

Reading this as I'm watching YT video without ads. Feels good.
Xero_Daxter 2023 年 7 月 1 日 上午 5:32
YouTube is probably gonna make ads in the video itself. Like... they will put ads in 10 second intervals.

*video plays > ad > video plays > ad > video plays > ad*

I don't believe it. Like I actually don't. The amount of people banned would be catastrophic, and it would damage YouTube's reputation, and projected view count

Like you said, it's an experiment, I don't think they will actually do this for real.
Xero_Daxter 2023 年 7 月 1 日 上午 5:36
I actually tab out and do something else whilst I wait for the ad to end.

Imagine if YouTube prevented this and was like "Aye aye aye!!! You can't tab out!!! We won't let you. Matter of fact even if you unplug your PC this ad would still play until it's over then your PC will power off."

I'll just sit back and see how this plays out. If worst come to worst, I'll just download the channels I like and then drop the creators a few $$ on Patreon.

♥♥♥♥ YouTube and ♥♥♥♥ ads.

adblocker and ublock origin up and running and i love them with all my heart <3
but, if by any chance this does go through and becomes a thing, which i highly doubt, i wouldn't mind getting banned. im on that site since 2006, i have already downloaded everything i had on playlists, entire albums, discographies, documentaries, podcasts, everything. patreon support too on some of them. so i don't really care if im banned or not, i aint leaving adblocker and ublock origin nope no sir

They would do it sooner or later. If you want free you watch the ads, or pay for premium.

If they allow adblock to exist then people will stop paying, and also send a message that they are a wimp that never serious about threats.

They won't lose much after all. This group of people don't make them any money in the first place.

FOSS will prevail!

Probably sounds cooler in Latin.

Fontes liberum vincet?

Liberos libros vincet?

Idk Latin.

Many content creators already do that, and there are solutions to block those, too. Plus, if YouTube were do this in a country like Germany, they will have to insert distinct ad-break intros and outros to comply with the law, making skipping even easier.

They would just straight-up keylog you, monitor your browser activities or even face-track you and what not. The tech for this is there and if you are deep within the Google ecosystem, you likely gave them permission to do this to you already.
To some degree, you could prevent this, but it would still be quite dystopic. We live in a cyberpunk world without the cool cyberpunk stuff.

If only YouTube were a decent company and wouldn't be a quasi-monopolist.

My comments were mostly jokes. Haha. ^

I hate it when I have to watch an ad that is longer than the video I'm gonna watch.

Its kinda of funny if it werent sad. Free service, ads fund it, play too many of same ad, leads to adblockers or way less visits.

I go with less visits, not sure what adblockers look at if its only ads or they monetize their free adblockers with other things.

Feel like my computer is a petri dish of malware and thats simply from web browsing above board non shady sites, and people who like randomly starting malware and spying campaigns, and extra click campaigns. :steamsad:

Why it's such a big hurdle to watch a few ads in and between some videos? You are using Youtube's services so you should give something back in return (in form of viewing some ads) and you don't have to pay anything, which is great. Some people despise communism but expect services like youtube to be completely free. That's ridiculous.

And btw, I wouldn't want to watch NaziTube (Odysee) or any other bitcoin stoner's video platform if you want to keep your sanity.
