It's said to be only an experiment, but we know how this ends.

Interesting developments. Reddit asking a fortune for using their API, Twitch seeking exclusive rights to user-generated content through their ToS, Twitter requiring a log-in to just view, YouTube attempting to shut down the Invidious project and now banning people for not wasting resources with corporate propaganda.

Honestly, if YouTube were a company that actually cares about their users, I probably would even pay a couple bucks for their service. But in my eyes, they are just as evil as their parent, which removed their motto "Don't be Evil" a long time ago.

Hopefully, this won't set precedent and is actually the final death rattle of centralised social media. But I don't get my hopes up, there are still enough consoomers out there.

Anyway, here are a few alternatives to YouTube:

Please note these are for the most part peer-to-peer based, so it's best to use them through a trustworthy VPN to not expose your IP and simply not use them in countries with strict views on P2P, like Germany.

I would be much less bothered if advertising agencies were not so creepy and unethical. I've gotten malware from ads before.

I go with less visits, not sure what adblockers look at if its only ads or they monetize their free adblockers with other things.

Feel like my computer is a petri dish of malware and thats simply from web browsing above board non shady sites, and people who like randomly starting malware and spying campaigns, and extra click campaigns.

There are a lot of people accepting this or grumble but just roll with it.

Yeah some ads are great but mostly its filler.

Sometimes when you feeling charitable they take you whole hog for a ride. With an hour ad on learning finance or fitness or some infomercial.

I mean they really take you for a ride when you just wanted to enjoy a jukebox.

More radio stations integrated into web browser might be a good solution for this.

And those sites implementing ad blocking when you dont have adblock activated though your web browser might be removing them for you, if they are overly intrusive and you have no idea unless you use another web browser.

And all the news sites that want you to pay, pay, pay and have seemingly never heard of ads, or ad servers, or ad agencies to get some revenue.

Internet has gone to pot with monetization, and no white knight ad agencies to help out.

Turn on your virus protection and don't click any banners and you should be good. I've watched so many ads on youtube and non of these gave me any issues. I would be more concerned about my device's safety if I watched odysee and co.

I despise communism. First and foremost because communism is a monopoly. You know what else is a monopoly: YouTube.

They basically draw that connection due to FUD.

Odysee is a bit looser with it's guidelines so it isn't as ban heavy. People who have been banned from YouTube go to Odysee. People believed YouTube only banned Nazis and the like. So, in their brain, Odysee is just full of Nazis.

Btw. I would be much more concerned about safety on platforms like Odysee because it's P2P. So someone can smuggle anything on your pc without even using ads.

You don't have to click on anything to get malware from an ad, and antivirus can only protect you if it can detect something.
Also malicious ads do not infect every user that views them, which is how they go undetected and have people like you saying it's fine because they never got anything. The payload can be delivered to only a certain fraction of viewers to keep the belief that ads are legitimate and safe.
