What the heck is going on in Arkansas? child labour laws
Under the Youth Hiring Act of 2023, children under 16 don't have to get the Division of Labor's permission to be employed. The state also no longer has to verify the age of those under 16 before they take a job. The law doesn't change the hours or kinds of jobs kids can work

Arkansas Gov. Sanders signs a law that makes it easier to employ children

And how well we know if the cashier at McD's or any other fast food joint is employing 12 year olds or younger?

I had this discussion earlier today with someone IRL.

Politicians tend not to be as stupid as we commonly think. They wouldn't do stuff like this if millions of voters weren't stupid, crazy and evil!
True

Feels like a rough human right violation and we are literally going backwards in time.

Since these articles will not tell you what those hour limits are and they are implied to be some kind of sigh of relief, here's something to grasp on:

"A child under sixteen cannot be employed: More than six days in any week. More than forty-eight hours in any week. More than eight hours in any day."

Literally.
Shame on GOP for being fine with this. Disgusting.

That's why the details and small print needs working out. People are making out that kids will be expected to work in the mines or sweat on the factory floor for 12 hours a day.

On the grant scheme of things, the downfall of the west has already started and things are only going to worst and things like human rights will need to be toned down if the west wants to remain on top compared to countries such as china.

Idk, the selling point OF the US IS those rights and freedoms, is it not?

Certainly it's better than 12 hours a day.

But funny thing is, we have western countries where 8 hr/day is the limit for adult workers.
Because anything more than that is deemed absolutely inhumane even for adults.

So yeah..

Boss: "Charlie! I put you in charge of the Newman case, have you sorted out all the documentation relating to the business merger yet?"

Charlie: *throws bottle of apple juice on the ground*
"doggy. I wan pat tha doggy."
*lol*

That's a good point, though. I hadn't thought of it like that.
It's probably more likely to negatively impact customers and clients than it is to negatively impact children trying to make a buck.
Well when we compare stress of highschoolers today to that of highschoolers of like 1970...

Kids have so much to learn in school today, that was near college level applications 50 years ago. You could graduate highschool with just basic math back then, now it's algebra+ just to graduate.

I entered the "at a loss for words" phase of being upset, lol.
I keep writing stuff and then erasing it cause none of it can adequately describe what i feel and what i think.

One of the reason for China boycotts and China criticism is child labor.
A big chunk of that rhetoric has come from the US.

I guess they are not so bad then, huh?

Now I know Arkansas does not speak on behalf of the whole country but this does crumble the credibility of such arguments.

Always found it kinda sad it's reduced to "We need to be like China, to BEAT China."

Also... y'know.. it's not like rich people are known for diddling children on their private islands.
Giving them direct access to children via employment totally wont backfire in hilarious and tragic ways.

That's the extreme end of this kind of thing but hey it could happen

Over the decades those's rights are being slowly eroded away.

Toddlers are the backbone of Canada economy. You know it. For each child born they can print more money by hiring toddlers eating up food to increase the demand on baby food and bananas and do not forget diapers.

Let's read the actual legislation, not an NPR (US Pravda) article about it. The law just gets the State out of issuing child work permits - nothing else changed.

yup, record breaking profits, but instead of giving people a living wage they tell us we are ina a"prerecession" and to let the kids work and help out at home

flippin sick

i am all for letting teens get a job and earning highschool credit

i did that with a part time job at the local tire place

i got out of school early and and earned elective credits

i couldn't work more than a few hours a day with a cap of 20 a week, i think.
The problem I have with the whole "They aren't paying US a living wage bit" is a good chunk of the people who say that ignorantly support the very policies that impoverish them in the first place.

When Trump left office at the end of the pandemic gas in my area was 2.85 for a gallon...now it's around 4 dollars and that's entirely by design.

And yet I see people who will complain about a living wage not being enough, while supporting the policies that increase the price of their food, their gas, etc.

And in this screwed up "Great Reset" New World Orders, kids are going to have to work. Food is too expensive for kids not to work. And it's just going to get worse...by design worse.

They're saying utilitiy bills are likely going to climb 40%. Get ready to buckle folks, and yes kids working just might keep the boat afloat.
