What is this "cable tv" thing you are speaking of?

It's television programming that is brought to people through a cable or wire. Broadcasting stations have to record new stuff each year, and every year has new stuff that people can tune into, by using a television device. Occasionally stuff is broadcasted in real-time, or people may tune into a station that continually streams shows, films, pop music, sporting events, or documentaries.

There's still cable in quite a few regions on Earth.

I haven't had TV service since ht every early 2010s, and haven't seen a movie since 2009. Something about them being a 90 minute cutscene with no gameplay fails to pique my interest.

But yeah, the idea of cable television is probably dying. Subscription services have taken over, people pay for what they want. They're mostly just internet providers at this point.
Yeah.

Our main provider is Xfinity and up until a few months ago, you pretty much had to bundle, which is why I left them. Now they finally have internet only plans at around $25/mo. so joining again.

Unfortunately, fiber optic is not an option where I live as the infrastructure doesn't exist. It's either coaxial cable or wifi box, which isn't working out well right now.

Isn't it already dead? This 70 year old guy I work with is even complaining about the programming on his satellite TV, saying all that's left is religious programming and infomercials, and he's the target audience.
Not that far off on Sat. There are pretty big.gaps of religious programs and infomercials. Worst part? They hide some dang good channels in those blocks.

Like I watch westerns, movies and series. I found out a couple months ago that I had not one, but two. I never noticed the one because I would just quickly flip past.

I am going to keep DISH for a while longer. I like just vegging out and seeing what is on.
The only decent internet hookup where I live is with cable. It is cheaper to get the bundle, than to just get internet + pay for streaming. Of course the cable company sets their prices to create this situation.😾
Apparently a google search shows that 42% of Americans still have cable. I find that to be hard to believe and sounds high, especially since it's only apparently gone down from 47% in 2019.

I call BS

Yeah, that's the issue I was having until they finally got on the internet only bandwagon.

That's mainly due to them being bundled with other services for cheaper rates and contracts being 1-2 years and having high termination/cancellation fees.

Verizon always has deals for phones that also bundle in cable packages.

Yes it is.

The regional sports networks in the US are starting to collapse due to massively overvalued rights deals, which could spell beginning of the end for cable TV because sports are one of the only things that are keeping people on cable. You can already watch a lot of sports on streaming services.

They are pivoting to gambling sites to make up for lost income. You see what MGM did with their new gambling site shilled by Jamie Foxx?

Haven't subbed to cable in over a decade. I can put a pair of rabbit ears on my TV and pull 40+ channels. Also, Netflix Hulu Disney and Youtube are about all I watch, anyway. Not so much Disney though I think I should drop that for HBO.
