Is white pepper suposed to smell this bad?

I like cooking so i bought some white pepper the other day, and it smells evil. I genuinely prefer the smell of a pig farm than this. Though it's not that big of an issue because it doesn't smell bad when it's heated, but i still want to know why it smells so horrible when raw. I've searched on the internet and found nothing, is white pepper suposed to smell this bad?

I just went into my kitchen and gave my little container of white pepper a sniff.

It smells sort of herbal. Mildly peppery. Certainly not "evil". Maybe yours has gone bad?

it isn't expired, and the only ingredient is white pepper

sounds like its bad, white pepper smells good to me. Just because its before the expiry doesnt mean its bad btw

i don't drink coffee, but it doesn't smell that bad to me, and garlic doesn't smell bad to me also

maybe it's just genetics, but if it is, then it's only for white pepper, because all the other herbs and spices smell normal to me

i bought from 2 different brands, so it would be a REALLY big coincidence if both were contaminated

White pepper should smell and taste pretty much like black pepper.

I can't tell a difference, at least.

white pepper has less flavor but it's spicier than black pepper

Sounds like a mold/fungus issue with how you store your spices.
