What do you think would actually happen if nuclear war broke out?

Depends on the bomb. You have to keep in mind that humanity has gone through a couple nuclear bombs in the past. And while it can kill hundreds of thousands immediately, it doesn't necessarily mean the end of the humankind.

I doubt that in case of a nuclear war, any superpower would launch a nuclear bomb capable enough of destroying the whole humankind. There would be no reason to do that against others than the enemies. It would be a targeted and tactical one.

That doesn't underestimate the amount of human catastrophe it would cause though. It would be extremely terrifying.

oh god that sounds painful

good thing i won't have intestines by the time a nuclear bomb blows my flesh off and i turn into a toilet skeleton that kids in the future will make memes out of

Its sadly sometimes the result of treatment for cancer depending on where their treating it, but thankfully it is one of few medical conditions that subsides by itself but it takes several weeks to do so, in short one of the worst parts of radiation while useful to fight cancer is that it causes other horrific forms of illnesses.

The only reason people know of it well enough, is due to how common it is for those with cancer related to any location below the stomach and above the knee line.

Many people would die from the direct effects of a nuclear attack, but far more will die in the stupidity that follows.

civil wars will begin everywhere.
militias going to rule cities.
unarmed people will get enslaved.
most of the victims will died from hunger. sickness. or killed by other humans.
new rich people will take over. all of them are warlords.
all currencies will be worthless.
Gold price will skyrocket. and will be the only valuable currency.
food, clean water, medicines, prices will skyrocket.
