Millions of societies have existed for thousands of years, and in some of them transgenderism was an accepted part of someone's identity. To say gender was "made up" in the past 100 years is dishonest and honestly just plain stupid.

Yes, the term gender identity wasn't coined until the 20th century in the English language, but that doesn't mean gender identity didn't exist before.
