What I take issue with is the people who want you to sign up for something that's literally the same thing as a trillion other social network sites that is going to be dead in four days.
And I don't mean a simple "join servers, do some annoying verification system, then leave" situation. If you leave the server, the client becomes unusable until you join it again.
As long as you are using that client, you are in the server. It sucks. And on top of that, you have to verify to connect your account to the game itself. I have never seen a fan made client demand so much connection with your discord and its really offputting.
I’d be worried about another Slack data leak situation.
I can't wait for the day discord dies and suddenly a bunch of media gets immediately lost because no one decided to have alternate downloads anywhere else.
It's a communication application, it works, don't hang out with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiots, no one is forcing you anything. Seriously, it's like saying "okay guys how do we replace Skype if someone is constantly rude to others?!"
Grow up dude, this thread is already sad enough of your constant obsessive crying. Oh, just maybe we should replace the Steam Forums with something more constructive because everyone is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rude.
In comparison to Steam, I got a reply within a business day and was able to get explicit clarity on how data is collected and/or used by them and their affiliates. They were helpful and concise. No issues with asking follow up questions.
Steam also uses encryption on voice and text chat, AES256 if I remember right.
The fact forums and community interactions are being funnelled into discord is a frustrating and disappointing trend. Sometimes communities, services or other such things, they become inaccessible to those who don't use Discord.
Trying to get friends or other such communities to use any alternative is like pulling teeth as it's just too convenient for them to keep using Discord despite them being aware of your concerns with their terms & conditions/privacy policies. I am inclined to believe if that is the way they think and shoot down any alternative being offered, they must not be prepared to put in the effort to maintain the friendship/community/relationship.
Oh well. I won't use it unless I can get guarantees on privacy, security and data management/handling processes. Steam offers that in an airtight capacity.
Oh, and you just reminded me of how annoying AF some of them are to be in. Having to go through a bunch of hoops after joining or having silly wait times. Or worse, the ones that make you register a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ phone number to use. Yeah, like that's going to happen.
One of the Discords for a game I was into, and using to communicate with other people has had "You must verify your identity by phone before you can send messages in the server." on it. I haven't messaged in that server yet. And that's where you have to go to get any kind of tech support for the game too. Like ♥♥♥♥ off with that ♥♥♥♥, I shouldn't need to give personal information just to deal with bugs.
shocking.
but i gave in eventually because Discord eventually just became something that was almost needed
Plus this is sometimes the case for COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE!!!! Image how professional you'd have to be to have to use DISCORD for software support for commercial software.......
Use brave browser for group chats or honestly just get signal and use the desktop app
