Horror games aren't scarier with weapons

I've seen a lot of people say that horror games are scarier when they have weapons, because that means you're gonna use it, but i disagree. I can't think of a single horror game that doesn't have enemies. If i see a gun on a horror game the game isn't "scarier", that just means i can shoot the monsters instead of always hiding and running away. If you had a gun on Amnesia, (even if it was a muzzleloader) the game would be way less scary. The Metro games can be scary at times, but they're not horror games, because you can defend yourself even against the strongest mutants. Just because a game has weapons that doesn't mean it isn't a horror game.
It's just that if you have the exact same game, but one has weapons in it and the other doesn't, the game with weapons isn't scarier than the other, it's the opposite. The game without weapons is scarier, because you can't defend yourself, you have to be much more careful with everything you do because even the slightest mistake can kill you

Stalker is still a decent horror game because you don't expect the horror bit at first with mutants and all that because it isn't a selling point i think.

on metro you know where the muntants are, you can hear and see them, but on stalker they ambush you, they attack when you least expect

Horror games with weapons are more fun and feels scarier for me cuz that means even with large gun, whatever terror is infront of me is beyond a gun compared to Horror games that have you do things and get chased, but to each their own

if you have a gun but you can't kill the enemies that's way better in my opinion than having a gun and being able to kill anything, because the gun is a tool and not the be all end all.

Except for the flamethrower, personally think the flamethrower makes Alien Isolation a bit too easy but then again maybe I should try playing it on nightmare difficulty before saying that with any confidence

Flamethrower only buys you a bit more time,it dosent kill the alien.
Knowing you are running out of fuel is quite stressful

Silent Hill
You have access to weapons, it's just not going to do much good against psychological fears.

Silent Hill 2
The game kicked it up a notch and brought even more psychological hits than the first one*.

Silent Hill 3
My fave of the series, brought in lore and scares.

Too bad there weren't any other Silent Hill games after 3.

*When Silent Hill 2 came out, I was living in an apartment that resembles the ones in game. And at night, the hallway lights would be red. Yeah, that's just nightmare fuel.
