Google result suddenly gone bad for anyone else?
Just did a search on Steam Limited accounts so I could link Steams FAQs on how to unlimit their account so I could link it in a thread. The results are shockingly bad. Tried various wordings to search and it's the same every time'. Just searching for 'Steam limited' or 'Steam unlimit' or 'Steam limited account' or 'Steam unlimit account' used to be good enough to have the official FAQs in the first 3 results taking me to
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/71D3-35C2-AD96-AA3A

3 pages and it's not a result, only time Steam is a result is to forum posts of people asking about it.

Results that bad for anyone else?

Google pushes "Bias Bubble" personal results, sponsored results, politically motivated results, and any results that game the algorithm above all else.

Strange this all started happening around the time they got rid of their old "Don't Be Evil" company motto. :marten_sip:
Log out, clear cookies, and try again if you feel that way. Google's "bias bubble" is designed to cater to the user's apparent preferences.
Stop using Google Search. It's ad-littered filth.

Read the thread. I don't normally. Reset Firefox yesterday as it was being buggy and I forgot to switch to my normal search engine. Default engine is Google. Didn't need to navigate there I just typed in the address bar and hit enter to see a Google search result page. I have since changed engine again but was still curious as to how Google results were for others.
The first like 1 to 7 pages (depending) are usually bought and paid for. You really gotta dig if you're gonna use Google.
big G is too filtered down to pushed results not real results you should be finding
will die off if they dont change

In other words: You just wanted to tell us that Google Search is rubbish.

And water is wet. :D

Something important to note is that Google does occasionally remove sites from their search without notice if the site is engaged in "black hat" SEO practices to artificially manipulate their results.
so use alta vista instead !!

Unfortunately, those are no news either. But fair, the more people know about this, the better.

No I was asking a question because I was curious. Was it just me or was it the same for others. Don't put words in my mouth or intentions to my actions. I'm blunt, I don't ♥♥♥♥♥ foot about trying to manipulate people.

It would be good if google was gone. *cough* Stadia *cough*

We can find a company that still has the motto "don't be evil". Not that evil is a bad thing.

i just pulled up the sitemap.xml file for https://help.steampowered.com and the link op posted is not in the file

which means that for some reason valve have removed it so google no longer indexes it as a function of valves official sitemap

it might get indexed when the url is found on other sites

A reasonable possibility, though when I installed Chrome on my phone it was the first result, like i expect it should be. so that doesn't feel right for the whole. Doesn't really matter either way. Just my curiosity got the better of me...

I keep switching search engines because they all suck. Google is sometimes actually better than the others, and it's generally predictable what sort of information they'll push too many pages back to display. Duckduckgo sucks, lot of obnoxious stuff it does. Startpage has problems. Yandex is, eh. Not much experience with ecosia or searx.

It is no news that Google is censoring results and sometimes, their censorship bot pulls weird things. Maybe it's recognising unlocking a Steam account as some kind of piracy. Who knows.

I'm blunt as well. Be like DouG - Don't use Google. Simple as!

it is not a google problem if valve does not include the url in their sitemap.xml

I'm not saying it is a Google problem. I did say your idea was reasonable. Just seemed odd when I tried chrome on my phone, first time it's ever been on my phone and it had the FAQ as first result which is odd given that idea was all.

So again if it's no longer listed then it's a Valve thing not a Google thing. Now it's just odd it showed on my phone

As I said I don't normally use Google. I don't tend to follow Google stuff in anyway. Which is why I asked the question.

I use Ecosia as it's a Eco search engine that plants trees for searches. kinda offsets any negatives in my mind.
