The Off Topic Philosophy Club - Intellectual Conversations
Philosophy

Every human being ponders. Many of us have favorite philosophers.
Some like Schopenhauer others prefer Kant.
Some enjoy Aristotle others enjoy Kierkegaard.

What are your favorite philosophers and what philosophy do you yourself adhere to?

Feel free to contribute and ask interesting questions or perhaps try to answer them.

Keep it civil and enjoy the conversation. :)

EDIT: It took a few pages of replies, but finally we got the discussions going. Thank you to every scholar and like minded individual who are sharing from their thoughts and wisdom.

Very interesting and provocative indeed. Truthfully, many quality users in Off Topic responding and discussing.

So sorry, you've reached a paradox as meaning is entirely subjective.

if that is the concept you adhere to, so be it.

Well, I agree with your stance on debating Holografix.
Typing comments in reply, or sequence on an anon game forum is not debate. It may look like it, but it's more akin to asynchronous commentary.

so this thread died, lol

guess intellectual topics can't compete with one more Vegan, Musk or Velma thread.

It's not dead, it's just resting :pillow::yondercat: kind of like I have been since there was another conflict at home and depression overwhelmed me again; that, and I was trying to build a tutorial hologram puzzle in the Baba Is You level editor. :theredpuzzlepiece: :greenpuzzlepiece: :bluepuzzlepiece: :cat_note:
Everything works so far except for the puzzle reset button and the actual puzzle.

Ok, test time:

- List 3 thinkers (philosophers, or ponderer)
- List 3 quotes

Constraints: No thinker prior to 1960, quotes must be from 3 different sources (not same thinker) and not be from prior than 1960.
...
Just to give a quick & lighthearted response while I take some time to think of something a bit more serious :

"If you watched it until the end, I hope hope you didn't like have a super terrible time even if you didn't enjoy what you were watching. I'm sorry if that happened but to be honest, it kind of isn't my- my fault if you if you watched the whole thing through ...maybe."

I could literally write anything right here and it would be its own quote of me. :3:

...yeah, I said that, just now!

well glad you're still keeping your head above water. i only saw 10 mins of Arvi's TED talk. learned that Rock is Push.

according to the constraints, you must have 3 difference sources for the quotes so quoting yourself might work 1nce, but not twice.

Baba is cool.

These are core philosophies the very basics foundations where you start, coped also with ancient greek language and acents barrier which many lack to grasp it, and you have version of interpretations in other languages.

no, not core, COPE.

Plato is hardly basic nor foundational as every philosopher since has aspired to overturn Plato.

allthough very few grasp greek philosophy in such content as they intended, coped with greek language barrier
Not even the real Greeks either. They killed Socrates. With poison.

Seriously though I have developed my own from my vast life experience.

Life is about experience and having fun.

If God exists omnipresent then it would be impossible to really experience anything in that form. If we are part of some being beyond our perception then we are here split off as its experience.

Does God exist? If there is a God it is likely to be a gestalt entity of our living thoughts and a being of pure thought. Not really having any form beyond what our imagination provides.

Do we continue after death? No. I am fairly certain that is a hard no. I have known some very close and spiritual people in my life and after death there was nothing beyond my own imagination. If there was a way to communicate or exist they would have tried just to try to prove it. Just the kind of people they were.

Best to look at life as your one chance. Even if you came back you would be someone else anyway. Or back to God to be whitewashed by too much information and flushed back.

Pointless to worry about crap that will never matter unless you need the life crutch to guard against fear of the unknown or need some way to rationalize your morality.

No idea, I am unfortunately just an uneducated, simple person.

Although, I'd advise parting wisdom to those who may disagree with you by humbly conveying your rationale instead of making declarative statements.

It helps to avoid creating needless hostility, if avoiding such things is in your nature.
Myself

I am the morally correct one

omg, DECLARATION is the style that best befits my wisdom. What more rationale do you need? Do you feel the need to agree with me, yet are put off by my STARK claims? It's ok. You can pretend to disagree openly with me, yet HARBOR a secret agreement with my commentary.

I don't mind.
