Because most of the people are right hands. Left hands do actually use arrow keys.
don't left handed people use different left handed keyboards?

I only use WASD when I'm playing TF2 or Vampire Survivors. Any other game I just use a controller.

Doom used the arrow keys with some weird nonsense to strafe

These days I use WASD for movement/strafe and arrow keys for turning (in doom)

Likely because most directional controls in gaming is done using the left hand.

That being said, I can use either with no issues.
What stops you from using arrrows with left hand?

For many people, desk space. You would have to slide the keyboard over until the arrow keys met your left hand. Though, now I find myself wondering how convenient it would be if someone made a keyboard that placed the arrow keys, and the home/end/delete/page buttons etc on the left.

We need to bring back gaming keypads.

People making DOS games back then we’re confirmed left handed

Because for QWERTY keyboards, WASD are near Shift, Alt, and Ctrl.
WASD are used because of the total amount of buttons that can be pressed simultaneously on certain keyboards, and before they are no longer recognized as button presses. For those keyboards, Shift, Alt, and Ctrl are special buttons which don't count towards this limit of buttons that can be pressed at the same time, and before they are no longer registered as input.

Long story short: You can use more keys at the same time there.

umm simple. We did use the arrow keys, but there are no keys that surround those.....so more keys is better and within better reach.

I don't use WASD tho, I use PL:" since I'm left handed(sometimes OKL: cuz conflicts etc...). Yes this means I usually end up rebinding ENTIRE key setups for most games that I actually end up playing lots. Especially FPS. It's probably one of the things that makes me an above average player... I get to know the binds very well. heh.

Just use a joystick already.

Your wrist will be at a more natural position, you don't have to worry about thinking what finger to push to move and can just move your arm the way you want to go.

Seeing people discuss what side of the keyboard to use sounds like cavemen talking about what side of the rock to crap off of.

Have you tried playing old PC games? That's how they used to play games. It was very awkward.

its so painful to try to play old games I just stick a controller in and play with joy2key

that or set up rebinds using keyboard software. Depends if the game is nicer to play with controller or not.

They could use ijkl instead and still press ctrl, shift, alt or game makers could let you configure other keys to do the same thing as those keys.

Keybaords are retarded anyway we should have had advanced 1 handed keypads with rotary knobs or 4 way scrolls wheels and other advanced controls like the spaceball 3d with all the buttons around it or the novint falcon.

Because the arrow keys are in the worst place.
And it's all that legacy IBM-AT bullshwa, too. Like we can't redesign the keyboard because of Tradition and "That's just the way we've always done it!" As if it's a religious thing.

Someone should design a keyboard with arrow keys to the left of the TAB key.

Just to be heretics.
nohuman 20 jan. 2023 às 20:10
lol. This does not even bring up the mouse issue....there are ZERO left handed mice that you might actually want to pay money for.

Ambidextrous is the best I can hope for, and if I find one with 4 extra buttons, I am laughin'. heh.
