The tech definitely isn't there. I can attest to it.
You may remember that not long ago I said that I would post pictures of some projects underway. Here are some in various degrees of progress and success:
*One of them (past, 2021) was in 2 rooms I installed temperature tuned, full(not really) RGB, dimmable, timed... ceiling lights- with any outward signals blocked.
*Then, the planters in the rooms also are set up similarly with lighting installed in them. Usually uplighting with the lights only visible from a higher perspective.
It mostly works- but it can be clunky at times. The colors aren't as accurate as I would like and the transition speeds aren't very good- or controllable enough.
*I just installed uplighting on the upper cabinets in the office. They look great- but 2 remote controls have utterly failed.
* I want to install 12 puck lights from the same manufacturer downlighting the side shelves- but again, there is that remote issue- so that one is on hold until I get some resolution.
* In my bedroom I am replacing furniture and especially the bed. When the new (more modern)one gets here it will be RGB underlit(independently.)
* The computers in the house have OpenRGB controlling them. Yes, it is open source- and it works pretty well. It isn't perfect.
BTW: I still gotta watch the movie reference.
Just a thought: Why not control RGB with MIDI? MIDI is used in all kinds of applications already.
That is a possibility. More research is needed...
There are worse countries out there that are worse then the US when it comes to how they tackle speech I will agree.
But in the case of the UK, can you really call it free speech if can get you arrested?
cant turn off updates
cant stop telemetry easily
cant uninstall cortana easily
they call it a "service" for some stange legal reason instead of os
But Windows is not really that easy to use either, when it comes to older games. And many of them do have mods, but what happens when they don't? Or at least have mods that fix compatibility issues? Compatibility issues that are only going to get worse as time goes on, especially if you are using Windows 11 and especially since Microsoft have shown they care very little about preservation.
Does anyone on here like Dead Space? Well if you want to play the original Dead Space you may experience many crashes with very little options to fix it.
And if you have to go so far out of your way to fix a game, or to mod the OS so you can remove invasive programmes. Then you may as well use a different OS at this point.
At least in my opinion I know many will disagree. All I want at the end of the day is to have a OS that does what I want it to do, not what some multi billion dollar company thinks I should have.
I want to enjoy the games that I enjoy, new and old. No one should have to deal with a unpleasant experience simply because it's too old, and they don't want to preserve it anymore.
Windows is the leading platform on PC, it should be the best OS for any use case scenario. And yes Linux should also be easier to use, it should not require hours of research to use certain functions. It should not require a hard to use compatibility layer, to play a good amount of games on PC.
One of the main reasons I stopped playing video games on consoles is because of lack of backwards compatibility.
You want to play that game from your childhood, you need to buy it again. And when the next system rolls around, you need to buy it again.
I don't want to see PC go through the same process, in which was the main reason I left console gaming in the first place.
this copy-paste game dev culture is stupid and leads to bad ports and broken games.
it's ridiculous for a dev to take like a year to fix a relatively basic issue because they didn't actually write the code themselves and just mess around with it until it works.
literally like monkeys at a typewriter...
if it was done right it'd work.
edit: if you want an example just look at RCT... it was done right and it STILL works.
The US government doesn't have the authority to set limitations. Any attempt to do so, or to control the flow of information by government is strictly illegal. However, the FBI has already gotten busted doing exactly that. Just because the constitution says you have something that government cannot take, doesn't mean they're going to respect that and not look for any kind of loophole they might be able to abuse to deny it. There is no free speech in the US unless the FBI is actually held accountable for their transgressions against it. Which so far, they haven't been, nor does it look like they will be.
At work I have to get an imaging solution set up for Windows 11 so we can put 11 on all our new machines.
First off you can't sysprep if bitlocker is on, so I had to learn a bit of powershell to turn bitlocker off. Why encrypt the entire C drive by default? Why? What happens if your rig fails and you try to move your drive to a new rig? If bitlocker is on you're farked.
Second you can't sysprep if any user-specific applications are installed. WHY? This makes even less sense than the bitlocker thing. (I can understand bitlocker as an option but not as default) but this? Failing sysprep because of an installed app? Microsoft is just torturing support technicians at this point.
And then - after finally completing a sysprep and uploading the image to my WDS server, I find out I can't drop said image onto a machine. Windows 11 boot will flat out refuse to install Windows 11 from WDS. Microsoft deprecated it. Apparently the year is 2023 and planned obsolescence is a valid strategy for making profit now.
F*** you Microsoft.
So now I have to learn their newest thing - MDT. It is the ugliest most god-awful complicated pile of ♥♥♥♥ I've ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes upon. It has a bajillion options and I only need two. Capture the image and deploy the image. WDS did this just fine with none of the complexity. Simple wasn't good enough for Microsoft. They had to make everyone's life complicated.
I said years ago I wanted to drag Microsoft engineers into the street and shoot them. That feeling has only intensified over time.
