You have to admit though, that this is more than a simple lazy remaster. They've redone pretty much every texture in the game, made new menus, added several new control methods, and modernized tons of effects and lighting.

If only that Super Mario 3D-All Stars would have gotten the same love and attention. That was a cheap and disappointing moneygrab.

I got stuck in the original game. There is this ice/snow area and I'm pretty sure it's a jumping puzzle, and I couldn't figure it out

AM2R (another metroid 2 remake) is the best metroid.

Despite being a fangame and cease&decisted, it was ultimately completed and even further fixed/expanded upon! Do not touch the official da ng "demasters", that former good companies dabble into, at the gaming scene of today!

Ah, Phendrana Drifts. One of the most beautiful and serene places of the game.

Ah yes, GameCube controller was quite unique.

The Gamecube controller was a lot closer to modern controllers than the previous gamepads Nintendo used. The Wii and the N64 had the most exotic controllers.

Rare/Nintendo just had a interesting controls setup. The second stick was used to change the weapons.

You had to hold a button to look around and couldn't walk at the same time.

At least both Ghost Trick Phantom Detective and Etrian Odyssey will arrive on Steam later this year.
Those were third party games though, so it's not directly Nintendo.

Can already be purchased, downloaded and played through the Nintendo eShop.

Already played the first segment until landing on Tallon IV.
The updated controls feel pretty good. Good selection as well, there should be a control setup for everyone.

It looks very tastefully done though. I would love to play it.
The original is still great, of course and maybe I should check that mod out.
Judging by the video the official remaster looks more polished and tastefully done, while taking advantage of modern lighting and other effects which the fan made doesn't seem to do.
But of course, "free" can't be ignored :)

It's nice to have both options
