How could Taiwan voluntarily joining China harm the USA?
With the war in Ukraine growing and increasing media talk of China potentially attacking Taiwan with a direct USA response, I have been learning more about the importance of Taiwan to the USA. Taiwan produces a huge portion of computer hardware for the world, so as someone who builds computers as a hobby and prefers certain Taiwanese companies, I now appreciate more the importance of protecting Taiwan from war.

I think it is fairly obvious that if Taiwan refuses to join China and war breaks out, Taiwan's economy would be seriously harmed alongside the world's economy. What I wonder is how a nonviolent reunification of Taiwan and China could affect the USA? China and USA economies are heavily connected already, so could reunification actually cause harm to the importing of Taiwanese products? I know President Trump tried to reduce the USA trade deficit with China. Perhaps there are certain Chinese laws or tariffs that are more problematic than Taiwan's laws?

Thank you for taking the time to read this! Google has not been helpful as the results I find mostly discuss the potential war, so I look forward to learning more from you!

I'm kinda shocked how people see this. Especialy USA citizens talk about how it would be a nice thing to harm China.
You guys seems to forget that you are living on foreign land. It is USA should be disbanded. It is USA is a threat to the entire world. Being a heir to Britain you do the same as they did before. Occupation, dividing nations, provoking wars.
And Chinese(and alot of other asians) people haven't forget what Britain did to them before.

Maecenas: You can have that effect on people.
Octavian: I was all sweetness and light with her... charm itself.
Maecenas: Yes, that is your most disheartening manner.

Ask Hong Kong what it is like being part of China again and how they like it.

HK protests were going strong before covid. What could have been. I guess only matter of time before they start up again.

We know that China has their puppets in the HK government and is why all the protests happened in the first place. The new laws put into place more or less destroy the whole independent economic zone premise.

Good point! Even if Taiwan voluntarily joined China with special privileges compared to the other Chinese provinces, they would likely still feel that many of their rights as an independent nation were taken away. That is a key reason why Taiwan wants to stay separate.

USA will defend Taiwan as if they defend Los Angeles if PRC decides to swallow the island against the Taiwanese citizens' wishes.

Because, the security of whole Japan depends on Taiwan. I don't even talk about South Korea, in this scenario, as it is already pretty nip and tuck.

However, there are some other things looming over PRC, currently unknown. You will see them once it is time.

USA, China, Taiwan all owned by the same banks so they could defend or they might just let China have it. Probably defend though just to develop new tech, increase their power/profits as well as their most important goal of decreasing the global population.

"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies." Thomas Jefferson

What Ye24 reminded me.

That said, this thread is a weird hypothetical.
How about a more realistic hypothetical, where a giant meteor slams into Beijing and all of China's government is destroyed, their armies scatter with no command, and a large scale collapse of their economy happens, ending in them being conquered by Japan and Taiwan. :P
And somehow America let Japan do that.

That would be the clincher. I don't think Japan needs the help of a meteor to conquer China.

Taiwan just needs to recover the Heirloom Seal of the Realm, then they will reign supreme!
I am certain I was using that for a doorstop a long time ago. Then I threw it away as ugly. My bad.

Hong Kong post Britain was way more free than it is now under Chinese rule where they're giving life sentences to peaceful protesters.

Still does not give the right to invade and conquest - or as they called it, "lease" - someone's else territory, does it? Does not matter if they do better, or they are the "good guys".

Also, Hong Kong was an exception, due to being occupied until very recently.

You forgot India, Pakistan, Malaysia/Singapore, and all the British-occupied African countries, that were far from free during colonial rule, and were dirt poor when they got independent, and most still are.
