which (fps) games where the pistols aren't suck/forgettable?
idk why devs give the player the pistol only for it to be forgettable once you got a rifle/shotgun. the only fps games that didn't do that is ultrakill. but i didn't really count revolver because i refer to normal pistol. pre re7 is not an fps but the pistol is my favorite arsenal in that game. i only played re2 and re4 and both are my favorite. and mgs3 has mk22 and m1911 and both are my favorite weapon in the game.

Fallout Mechanic where you use weapons automatically with your AP bar, it was implemented to give that RPG turn by turn aspects to modern fallout games. You can target any ennemy body part with it too which you should anyways almost always aim the head in 90% of the time regardless.

i forgot that stalker anomaly is also a bit of walking simulator. it is fine if the map is small but the game's map is big. so it can become a burden for player. there are mods like autocomplete so you wouldn't came back to where you got the quests at. which make the game less of a burden. i still find artefact hunting quite fun tho

Killing Floor is a survival wave game so they limit ammo per round. There are ammo cases that help but higher difficulties lower spawn chances for stuff. Well balanced honestly, also a setting in controls for last weapon so you can quick swap between stuff pretty fast.

Nisha with the Bastard Maggie was damn near unstoppable.

Games with good handguns... Hmmm...

Halo 1,4, and Reach had the Magnum. It pulverised shields.

Bulletstorm. The handgun was good, it's alt fire was horrifying.

Unreal tournament. This one is a bit of a cheat but you do use it like a pistol. The flak cannon. In normal use it functions as a high damage shotgun, but it's alternate fire shoots a very high power fragmentation grenade that is designed to turn your opponent into a fine red paste.

Planetside 2 has many rather powerful pistols. Different style pistols too. From "hand cannon" type revolvers that only have a handful of shots per mag to full auto and burst-fire pistols (which you can all use as single fire pistols still)

Dual pistols in Warzone were pretty op at close range. Low recoil and high fire rate.

One of the few flaws of that game.

Fixing your weapon is not immersive, it's annoying.

Other annoying examples:

Drills in Payday
Dying Light


In answer to the OP, Cyberpunk 2077 has very viable pistols/handguns as primary weapons.
