Are (potato) chips a scam????
I live in Denmark.

The most popular brand of chips is called Kims.

They recently started putting stickers on their products saying the bag(s) now has 50% less metal.

And I go - okay so they're trying to paint themselves as being pro sustainability or whatever.

But here's the thing: the bag is still at least 50% bigger than it needs to be.

We all know this. It's like that with every brand of chips. The bag is always like 50% air.

So yeah Ngl i find it hard to believe they actually care about the environment.

I suppose to the question is this

Why are potato chips bags at least twice as large as they need to be?????

If it wasn't a scam when they weren't made of real potatoes, when 55% of the bag was air, when they were sold to me stale or using low-grade ingredients and preservatives, then they DEFINITELY were when they starting charging me 5 Canadian dollars for them.

I read somewhere the reason of air in bag is that the “air” in snack bags isn't just air at all. It's taste-preserving nitrogen that fights off staleness and protects bags from pre-snack time squashing . . .

But I suggest you to make chips or popcorns yourself (Making popcorn is easy), Buy a potato cutter and chips maker, Coock cakes, snacks and everything else yourself in home or buy from confectionary that they make homemade ones, No need to remind that eating fast-foods is worst than snacks. . .

Everything inside hyper-markets such as packing produts from chips to chocolates and biscuits or cakes no matter how they have a safe brand or use healthy materials !! Using Preservatives for them is un-avoidable because when a food product have been made in factory, It needs to keep in there for a while then a truck will come and carry them into the different cities and different stores, This process take times, So if these products don't use Preservatives, They will be rotten for sure. . .

Preservatives are the real problem itself, No matter how much other materials are healthy, Only using the Preservative itself has lot's of harms to your body. . .

So if you care about your health or your diet, Avoid every packing products and try to make snacks or cakes inside home yourself . . . Otherwise if you are fat-boy so you are allowed to eat everthing. . .

P.S : Because I want to stay young and strong in my above ages like Tom Cruise or Keanue reeves or dwayne johnson and . . . So I need to pay attention to these instructions and have a healthy diet so it costs me to stay away from charming foods in the streets !!

the reason your chip bags are so 'bloated' or 'filled with air' is because if they weren't you'd have a bag full of crumbs. that 'puffy' bag actually helps to protect the chips from being smashed into crumbs. The weight on the front of the package should tell you how much product is in there to consume, the size of the bag shouldn't matter and doesn't need to be 'filled'. if this bothers you, then just get a can of pringles.

iirc its mainly a measure to stop the chips from being turned into dust during transport. displacing oxygen was important to prevent degradation of the flavor.

seriously chips are not hard to make at home slice thinly then sprinkle some flavor on top and bake till dry up, or go for the unhelthy oil frying option too if want

The nitrogen doesn't matter. It could be an inert gas. It's really the lack of oxygen that preserves flavor and freshness. Oxygen combines with everything. Gotta get rid of it.
All of you guys in this thread seriously need to learn the difference between oxygyn and nitrogen i dropped out of school in 6th grade but even I know those aren't the same. Liquid nitrogen is the stuff that made the T1000 ij terminator 2 freeze up

So yeah. Get it right. It's like saying Africa is a country

A regular-sized Pringles can is 10 inches long.

Dude the stuff in tires is AIR aka oxygen aka H2O nut nitrogen which is used as fuel and stuff. Remember fast and furious it's the button they push to make the cars go fast

Most potato chips are a scam junk food except Lay's Stax™. Stax are thicker, crispier, and in a solid plastic tube with a consistent number of whole chips. Pringles are lesser quality.

Op is def right about chips bags being 50% air though, i think some space is normal but why does it need to be this big of a margin.

It's my understanding that the Family Mart chicken flavored chips are bomb. Famichiki

We will see. I don't get to visit Japan for a while still.
