Prince of Persia 2008 is actually a good game (post your underrated games here)
Sure, Nolan North's prince is kind of annoying and corny, but I think the game is going for a lighthearted and fun kind of tone, like a Disney movie or something like that. The game has a certain minimalism of design to it that seems reminiscent of a Team Ico game to me, just the way the game is laid out with the central temple area reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus. It also has that whole "design by subtraction" thing going on where the game tries to do a few things, but do them well. It's wonderfully stripped back and simplistic in a good way imo. The art style is beautiful too.

Unfortunately the PC port is a little busted, I've been playing it on my 360 instead. The graphics aren't true to the original intent unless you run it on very old period-correct hardware. The "cell shading" (not true cell shading) is supposed to be applied to everything but it just doesn't on modern hardware. Still worth it if it's your only way of playing it.

I think both this and Forgotten Sands are underrated and underappreciated, but I slightly prefer '08 as it tries to do its own thing.

Feel free to post other games that you feel are underrated/underappreciated in this thread.

I've only played the original. Keep meaning to check out the reboots.

Mechner is a mad genius.

Forgotten Sands is better if you want an experience that's more like the original games. It will still disappoint slightly in the combat, but 2008 is even more disappointing in that regard. 2008 never has you taking on more than one enemy at a time, it's really a very different combat system than the original games.

Edit: Oh, you mean the original originals. This franchise has so much history.
