In late jr. high to early high school I had a new wave phase. I was trying to emulate the likes of U2, A Flock Of Seagulls, The Fixx, Oingo Boingo...

If I could invent a time machine I would definitely go back and erase some of those moments... Yeesh!

Yes and no.

I did listen to a lot of metal - including death metal - back in high school, and some bands / songs that might be considered "emo". I also wore a lot of black shirts and grew my hair out longer (and even dyed it black one summer break). But I wouldn't consider myself to have ever been "proper" emo, as in doing stuff like the black nails and whatever.

(And also, none of that changed. Now today, in my mid-20s, I am still wearing mainly dark colors, my hair is now even longer, and I still listen to metal and rock almost exclusively. I do also really like dark themes, like dark fantasy for example.)
