Keeping someone alive forever
Is it possible to keep someone alive forever if each organ that dies is replaced by a machine?
The only thing that coudlnt be replaced would be the brain.

Technically yes since it's brain that is you, rest is just helping you alive.

Forever no? A long time? Sure.

In the 40's the Russians kept a severed dog's head alive for 6 months. It was fully conscience and reacted to stimuli.

That's our intuition but we don't necessarily know that. It could be that the whole nervous system, your gut bacteria, and other systems are what make you "you", and that you would change drastically if those change.

"scientists were so fascinated on asking if they could, they didn't stop and ask if they should."

Unfortunately, the nervous system isn't immune to aging either.

You can't keep them alive forever, but can significantly increase their lifespan. Some bussinessman or something named David Rockefeller lived until 101 who had numerous organ replacement surgeries.

Only 6 months? Were they using some run-down toilet water or something? :lunar2019laughingpig: This'd be an interesting, inhumane experiment. (evil laugh):cozyroe:

No idea.

But this was done way back in the 40's. Science has come a long way since then. They could probably keep a brain in a jar alive for god knows how long now.

Jellyfish can apparently already do this with themselves and they don't need to replace their body parts with machines unless they're some sort of deep-sea robots that are made out of something other than metal and plastic. :potejelly: :seewhatyoudid: :jellyfish15:

Yes we should all become jellyfish so we can become a slimy immortal. I'm sure this will satisfy someone's fetish at least... :steamhappy:

Please don’t keep me alive forever. If I was a vegetable please pull the plug or shoot me in the head.

Altered Carbon shows how it can done. A person's consciousness is stored and continually recorded on an implanted device called a “cortical stack,” that stores a record of their memories and conscious awareness all the time. If your body dies or you simply just want to change bodies for fun, data in your stack can be transferred or downloaded it into another body called sleeve. You can even cross sleeve, man into woman and vice versa, for fun. This can be also be used for instant travel if you have a body waiting for you at the destination anywhere in the universe since needlecasting technology is FTL, near instantaneous.
