The PS2 is the coolest console of all time. (Here's Why)

This console, held more games than any other could even come close to, had a ♥♥♥♥ ton of exclusives because of how many small indie games, Japanese titles were on the console.

Had a start up screen where a certain number of towers sat at the bottom was equal to the number of game save files you have and their height was how long you had time played in them.

Every game had their own custom save icons which I am fascinated by and obsessed with. Idk how there is not a wiki for them alone. They can be 3D figures, they can have animations, delete animations, some even change after a certain point of the game.

The amount of cool and absolute amazement the PS2 has still blows away anything else to this day, but hell, some of the greatest games ever are PS2 games too.

PS2 was overrated... immensely so. So much so, the PS3 was nearly a complete flop due to a fairly large numbers of non-returning customers. Not saying the PS2 was a bad console, but it's hardware was the weakest of the generation. It ran at half the resolution of it's competitors. Many of the good game series of prior gens had declined or not been present, or been irreparably changed into something many found uninteresting, case in point, the decline of JRPGs from where they once were in the PS1 era. FPS games were becoming popular, and so was online competitive gaming, which the PS2 lacked.

The way I see that gen is if you want good, fun exclusives, Gamecube. If you want one of the best versions of multi platform games, a set of it's own pretty good exclusives, and online gaming, Xbox. PS2 was the weakest console of that gen, only artificially inflated in value due to a "sales number" that needs to be given with an asterisk given a huge portion of those PS2 sales didn't even occur until after Sony was dumping consoles at $99 and in countries that had no access to anything else, which Sony included to do up until 2013, nearly twice as long of a production run as their competitors.

Not a bad console, but still not the best of all time or event hat generation. It's not even the best or most influential Playstation console, the PS1 achieves that, and it's success is responsible for a lot of PS2 sales in people who were hoping to see a continuation of what it offered. That continuation did not occur.

The PS3 flopped because Xbox came out first, and the PS3 was $500 at release. It also has almost no exclusives. It had nothing to do with PS2 being overrated

I grew up in the 2000s, so I had a PS2 as well. Although I remember using my GameCube and other Nintendo consoles far more. Over the course of my school years, I had 6 Nintendo consoles versus only 2 PlayStation ones: the PS2 and the PSP.

The games I recall playing most on PS2 were the original Spyro trilogy, GTA: San Andreas, and the PS2 version of Spider-Man 1 (which is way different to the other one that most other people seem to know instead; in the PS2 version you can legit play Harry Osborne as the Green Goblin, with a completely unique set of moves and the ability to fly around using the glider).

I do also have a lot of memories of going to that screen that comes up when a disc fails to read correctly; that must've happened quite often to me.

PS2 slim can burn in hell though, scratched so many discs with it.

PS2 Slims are great now with FreeDVD boot and Fortuna. I back up my games and play them over Ethernet using OPL Launcher. Most work but for the ones that don't I use FreeDVD boot. So I don't have to ever worry about a Slim wrecking real disks. I also use OPL launch to play PS1 games.

I've got a 9000 model, it's amazing what this little beast can do! And even more incredible what the modding community has achieved in recent times with soft mods.

yeah current scenarko with modern consoles is ugly. pc will probably only continue to grow here on out

With the current pricing, mobile cloud gaming is where we are headed.

Some people said the same about stadia lol. Pc players will never flock to that because we want to have the most options
