Anonymity brings the worst out of people. People will say the most messed up things because they can. There is not a single online community that isn't somewhat toxic.
Gaming communities tend to be extra toxic because people take games a bit too seriously.
This will never really change. Portal and Animal Crossing are no exception.
And the best. You forgot the other part, the charity and heroism annominity brings out. It's the worst AND the best. It's why we don't allow masks during protests but do allow it in charity events. Annominity tends to loose our inhibitions, it's a double edges sword. People just keep harping on anything out of the ordinary.

Where else but the internet could a man give me the equivalent of 100 dollars, out of nowhere, for no reason at all. Warframe, mesa Prime(the whole thing) which at the time(it was out of drop at the time) was around 100 dollars.
I can guarantee Mesa P set likely never even hit like 200+ plat, given it's a newer prime set. So definitely not worth $100. Lol

What bad faith? Disagreeing with you? You make an assanine statement of "lots of fighting/namecalling over trivial things," as sometihng to be hated and removed from an environment. I followed that pointing that it's common human interaction and nothing some evil set to ruin people's day. That's not bad faith that's just poking fun at your ♥♥♥♥ points.
You heard it here folks, according to videomike namecalling and acting like a petulant child is human behavior. As evident, by, well, his behavior.

I guess we're not allowed to have communities that aren't chalk full of manchildren throwing fits and slinging names.
I...dont mean to disagree with ya Leon, but in a strange way he's sorta right, I mean not in all context but in a odd way a community implies that there is indeed a group of angry people, after all a community would not need to exist unless there were gamers excluding people from it for a reason...

Like if I say "Call of Duty community" the first thing that literally comes to mind is the kid that scream "MOM GET THE CAMERA" and "OH BABY A TRIPLE" without even a certain cod in mind.

The Monster Hunter community is pretty chill, and everyone is helpful when you're trying to make builds.

I mean you'll find toxic subsets of almost every fandom under the sun, however people should be deterred from finding a group in a fandom that's not overtly toxic? Because "it's human nature'?

I agree, but thats what I'm saying that when you get down to how communities work, the start is those that are the good natured ones (normally) and later evolve into being toxic.

Like remember how I brought up FNAF? It started as a fun indy game jam horror, got its fandom which yes was actually toxic from the start and literally were vile to people trying to add stories to their furry chicken robot game, then they were kicked out as soon as the game had a 2nd one, then 3rd and so on.

Oddly enough same for Undertale when it got Deltarune.

I guess your both rather correct but idk, I rather not get into this rabbit hole xD

My question is, why are we obligated to tolerate the toxic behavior? between muting, or building one's own community, or finding one that has zero tolerance for toxicity. Why should we be forced to sit and deal with mouth breathers who get off on namecalling?

How do you function.....you just claimed I acted in bad faith and you take the worst possible malicious interpretation and use ti to insult me and misrepresent my point. My god, your self awareness is a black hole. I am in awe as you, how can you possible be THIS hypocritical. It's clear you have no idea how human communication works but this is ridiculous

ehhh...this is one of those issues that honestly is best dealt with in the mind of an adminstrator, and thats "play nice or dont play at all' because while I see your point, from a adminstrator view point, they cant really pick sides without more issues being given and if they do, then the chances of the community surviving are rather slim, its like they understand the need for neutral ground between the two and understand why one dislikes the other but in their task of being the middle man, they dont pick sides, after all while I get your point, its rather unfair to kick someone out just because their not liked, but on that same coin the same is the otherway around, dont be annoying or get thrown out.

A tif for tat situation

"Don't worry bro, it's just a normal part of human behavior."

An orphanage,
a church service,
a funeral home,
a nursing home,
a hospital,
a graveyard,
a gunshow,
a pumpkin patch,
at the scene of an accident,
a circus or carnival,
a bookstore,
a library,
a New York Subway,
a Wendy's,
a grocery store,
a pharmacy,
a GameStop,
a gaming convention,

...pretty much anywhere that you're not incarcerated or detained, and there's another person who you can say, "Hey, I'm going to pay for theirs too" or where cash is present. :seewhatyoudid:

Given Mesa Prime never exceeded 200 plat except for the week of release, and likely never hit over 150 plat in price when not in rotation. you're looking at less than $10, not $100 anyway. Dude was exagerating/lying, or he uses the in-game trade chat which is chalk full of people pricing items 3X higher than their worth. Lol

Going rate of plat atm is $10 for 170 plat, and that's not even with the 75% off coupon you can get from daily login.

Okay fair point, I should have noted: Where else do people give to eachother any social benefit. Giving to charity or to people on the street or to the sick fulfilled an emotional desire to help when you see someone in need. Now imagine just passing a 100 dollar bill to some guy you met in a story that just went "oh yeah, trying to find a good birthday present for my friend," someone in no need of aid of any kind.

Point taken, I should have been more clear. Have a video
