How powerful is a nuclear bomb?
Is nuclear bomb that devastating, once it hits the ground like can it wipe out the whole country, due to it's radiation?

There was a guy from Japan that survived both nukes. He was on the first blast zone, and moved to the second before the bomb hit.

it depends on a number of factors, a nuclear device is very complex and very delicate. it must perfectly cause a fission reaction. the fission of atoms is what generates the energy rapidly to explode.

it doesn't actually 'hit' the ground. it's programmed to begin the reaction (detonate) at a given altitude.

a nuclear device can wipe out a city, but it would need to be big enough.

the main destructive force of the explosion would be the pressure differential, which cause a 'pull' then a really big 'push'. pressure would shift between almost -5psi to an outward blast pressure of 6000psi or greater for most bombs. the blast wave is usually enough to totally annihilate structures, as normal structures are not built to handle this, they would crumple like rotten paper. most buildings can't handle even tiny amounts of pressure, so 6000psi would be like using a D11T caterpillar bulldozer to smash a tiny sand castle.

the radioactive exposure from a nuclear device depends on your distance to ground zero. it will also go straight through buildings and concrete like it wasn't there. if you were close enough, it would completely blind you even if you had your hands covering your eyes, and were in a basement.

That's like cartoon bad luck.
Just clap your hands and glue that split atom back together.

To maximize the destructive potential explosion the bomb needs to detonate a a higher altitude. This higher altitude, while increasing the range, will lessen the fallout it causes. If you detonate the bomb lower, your initial damage will decrease significantly, but will increase the fallout of he explosion.

The Alpha radiation although the most deadly is the easiest to block, but nuclear explosives had a whole band of radiation, so it is still advisable to leave the area for a while. That being said, you should be able to move back in a city with a month after being nuked, although your cancer rates will be higher there then the surround areas.

Most modern nukes are smaller than what was ready during the 50's and 60's due to the fact that most missiles are smaller, but they usually have multiple warheads.

Nukes are sorta overrated

now HYDROGEN bombs those cause much more destruction but are limited to water to cause the chain reactions.

Hydrogen bombs are nukes; they use fusion instead of fission. Nothing to do with water.
roughly equivalent to one nuclear bomb
It was powerful enough to destroy a whole city in 1945, Imagine the ones that could be built in 2022...

The Tzar bomba will level e.g london completely and because of this ukraine/russian war, the possiblely of nuclear war is more present than it was during the cold war.

Yes, and it was built it 1961. Imagine the ones that could be built with modern technology.

I don't even want to think about it m8, its too scary a thought knowing, me and my family could be burned to a crisp because of some BS politics
