Good "shelter" survival games ?
Hey all,

It's been some time since I started looking for "shelter" survival games on Steam ; games in which you can feel protected in a house/shelter that you built (or not), like The Long Dark or Minecraft [AT NIGHT]. Sadly, those are about the only games I found which really follow this idea.

Any propositions ? :perp:

Ark Survival evolved might fit that. You can build houses in different materials such as stone, wood, and metal. Each offers its own level of protection from the dinosaur and other animals on the island

Thanks a lot for the reply, but that's not really what I'm looking for, I might've been unclear ; I'm looking for a game in which you feel sheltered from wildlife, yes, but mainly the weather and possibly the darkness of the night.

As I said, to clarify, a bit like in the "The Long Dark" trailer where you see the player inside some kind of outpost keeping warm of the total blizzard outside.

The first thing that came to my mind is This war of mine. Its really depressing tbh

I don't think this is quite what you looking for, but maybe check out Project Zomboid. You will generally start by claiming a house/building as a starter base, but there is crafting to the point you can eventually build your own place or add on to an existing structure.

with both the Hearthfire DLC and Wet & Cold mod

I think This War of Mine is the game that comes closest to what I'm looking for (and Project Zomboid looks nice too), and even though I'm pretty sure I'll buy it (because it looks awesome), it's still not exactly what I'm looking for. I probably should've said this earlier, but I'm rather looking for a first person game, for it to be more immersive.

Okay, I think I found a way to describe what I'm looking for : An immersive (thus first person) shelter survival horror game, in which you mainly try to survive against the weather and the wilderness. I think my best examples are still The Long Dark and Minecraft at night.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the replies !

PS : Now that I think about it, The Forest is probably another decent example

Minecraft
Unturned

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Thanks, but Unturned doesn't really have a shelter aspect to it, which is what I'm looking for.

And Minecraft, yes, I know ;)

hmm when you mention The Forest.. how about Rust?
happy_sadan Apr 5, 2016 @ 1:22pm
But Rust doesn't really have a night/weather survival aspect, does it ?

hmmm kinda! At night its way harder to see enemies and dangerous animals that might jump on you if you're not paying enough attention. And it is possible to freeze to death if you dont wear enough clothing. Like.. if you climb the top of a mountain without any clothes on at all, then you're probably going to die. And you also have to eat food and drink water.

Its a really fun survival game that i highly recommend. Its best to play it with friends though, it makes it 10x better :)

humans will always be the biggest threat though

How exactly does that fit OP's criteria?

Well I guess it can be a bit like it at night ? Is there more danger at night ?

And Fennekush, I know there are aspects of it a bit like that, but it's not really immersive enough for me, I think.

PS : I know I'm being super demanding, sorry for that ...
