Is ambient music fans out there?
Because this music genre is not popular I want to find someone who likes to listen ambient, doesn't matter if you like dark-ambient, industrial or space...etc. I just want to find someone to discuss new/old/classic ambient albums (and other works).
Thank you!

I have an eclectic taste in music and listened to a lot of The Orb, Brian (and Roger) Eno and Aphex Twin as well as a number of lesser known artists throughout the 1990's mainly.

I found an album when I was a teen called Giez - The Ambient Room, which took me by storm, still listen to it regularly after all those years :D
Anybody else knows that album?

This is the one (it has a really cool cover and booklet IMO):

As with any genre definitions, there is a huge amount of subjectivity and there is no 'right or wrong' but people will argue over details anyway.

In my understanding, New-Age is typically more organic and refers more to a style than a genre. Perhaps comprising a number of tracks by artists that may typically consider themselves New-Age.
Ambient is a broader depiction of the sensory amalgamation of certain musics, and as such, it could be argued that many New Age styled releases fall under the larger umbreella of ambient works, although certainly not all ambient pieces are New Age and there are arguably New Age offerings by artists such as Enya or Dead Can Dance which I would not consider at all 'ambient'.
Overall, simply from the appellation of 'ambient', I determine ambient music to be that which provides an ambience. A subtle background musak.

Thank you commander, excellent explanation. The reason I ask is that one of my favorite artists of all time is Ray Lynch and I'm not sure which category he would fall into.

Well don't take my word for it, it's subjective and anyone else can tell you a different idea. Not even radio, TV or music shops will agree necessarily on what fits what genre and most music (as with most movies, videogames or other creative works) rarely fits neatly into a single category but often may be some elements of two or more.

If YOU think it's "Ambient", go right ahead and call it "Ambient", if someone disagrees, that's up to them :)

I haven't listened to muych of Ray Lynch's stuff, but he's very talented and MY PERSONAL OPINION as alluded to in my previous post would be that his style is quite New-Age - a bit of a generalisation given it's all very accoustic and 'natural' sounds, played not synthesised etc.

It may be easy to place all such classical accoustic into the 'new age' bracket, though, so I'm a little wary of where that sort of division lies :)

Depending on the track itself, I would have no problem considering a lot of Lynch's music as Ambient AND New-Age!

If you consider a serbian film's soundtrack as ambient then yes, I may be a fan.

I don't play EvE anymore, but I remember when you were able to play the music thorugh an in-game 'jukebox' ... later CCP changed it so the music was spontaneous according to events (i.e if you changed to different security space, came under attack etc.)

It really is a fantastic soundtrack though (I think there have been a few tracks added over time?) but it needed to be since it was so easy to spend hours in that game!

Yeah, I didn't even know they removed the Jukebox, I haven't played that game for a long time, it's not really my type of game with that open pvp, it really looks to me it only favors the griefers because they can destroy you anywhere, even in high-sec, while you're mining for example, or they scam you and have a bunch of alts ect. really not what I like. I would have loved it if everyone just had 1 character and worked on that reputation ingame, but that's my opinion.

I am not 100% understand what you said, but I am looking for Ambient fans or guys who interested in this kind of music as subject. I am not judging anyone/anything.

I think they were referring to the comment about the genre "not being popualr" and that this may have been sourced by some aspect of radio airplay/sales/download charting which shows a disproportionate bias.

Anyway, I really don't like to say I like x genre of music, or y style, I even don't necessarily say that I Like certain artsists generally, since I like INDIVIDUAL TRACKS based on their own metrits and my mood and circumstance also have a huge influence on the sounds I may prefer to listen to at any one time.
