Getting Back Into Anime and Need Suggestions

Ok so let me give you my anime history.

Favorite Shows: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Beck Mongolian Chop Shop

Shows I Thought Were Alright: .Hack/Sign, Paranoia Agent (first half of the season anyway), FLCL, InuYasha, Yu Yu Hakusho

Shows I'm interested in trying: Gangsta, Kids on the Slope, Terror Resistance

Themes/Things I Gravitate Towards:
-english voice acting,
-realism or grounded in reality (ala Inu Yasha with Kagome's home life),
-things that are on Hulu, Funimation, Netflix or last resort being YouTube (ease of access)

I know. I don't know how to descibe why I don't like it without sounding offensive but it comes across as too cartoony for me. I also think InuYasha was about the closest thing I could stand to surrealism mainly because I loved the back and forth realtionship with InuYasha and Kagome. Normally though super powers of any kind take me out whatever I'm watching instantly

Ah well, Then I don't suggest you watch Boku no Hero.. Since it's all about super powers and too cartoony.. It has a nice plot tho

Again, that's not a diss. Like I said, my favorite anime are in the Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo vein where its pretty serious with light comedy and realistic human characters with story arcs. It was just the only way to describe I can descibe it. Clearly FMA is doing something right, right?

Well.. I don't think you should be looking for realism in anime. At first I didn't like anime but some shows has nice plots =D
If you forget its cartoon it's enjoyable .. And I haven't really watched a lot of animes because am REALLY picky.. around 16 so far.. most of them about Sci-fi or Super powers

If you forget its cartoon it's enjoyable .. And I haven't really watched a lot of animes because am REALLY picky.. around 16 so far.. most of them about Sci-fi or Super powers

I've tried my entire life. I tune it out so easily. Sadly, with almost all media, I have a difficult time adapting to genres that I immediatly give me a poor response. I've been watching anime for a long time and I've tried a lot.
