Advice for leaving my job at Burger King?
So I've been working at a Burger King for about 1 1/2 months, so I'm still in probationary time. I'm planning to give a week notice since I'm still on probation and because the main manager can be bipolar. I already knew I wasn't staying long (leaving for college) but I didn't think I was leaving as early as I am due to some health reasons coming up. I talked to someone who said I shouldn't bring up the health issues since their not visible (The main manager acts like a royal pain if she can't see any issues :steamfacepalm:).

Any advice to how I should come about giving the notice? I don't want to destroy the bridges I did build there with the lower level managers.

Write a resignation letter, and give two weeks if possible, not just one. I highly recommend talking to the manager in person, where you can just say what was in the letter, but failing that you can always just give them the letter itself. If you choose personal confrontation, make a good show it, aye?

Next, I would suggest getting a reference letter from one of the lower managers you have a rapport with. Just in case things don't work out.

However, if this Burger King is in the US, you don't need to worry quite so much because you're protected under law, so long as you have a diagnosed condition that requires treatment. Doesn't matter if it's invisible, let's just say depression for instance. If you have a psychologist/psychiatrist's diagnosis Burger King cannot permanently terminate you. They can fire you for now, but they can't prevent you from re-applying under Fair Labor Standards 2016. It would essentially be the same as terminating you for having broken arms or something.

Just make sure you have the diagnosis, FIRST. I don't mean to insult your intelligence but a lot of people seem to forget that part. They feel depressed or something and they assume that IS depression. Then they find out it isn't, but they already used it as an excuse. Terminated. Don't let that be you.

Just give them your notice, and if they ask why say something has come up. You don't need to go into specifics or lie.

As long as you give them as much notice as you're expected to where you live you don't have to worry about anything else. They can't speak badly about you for doing that, even if it leaves them in a bad spot.

Just quit and get a job at Mcdonalds.
Step one: Say, "I quit".
Step two: Walk to door.
Step three: Open door.
Step four: Go out side.
Step five: Go away.
Step six: Don't come back(except to pick up your last check).

It's burger king, not a career. You don't need to give notice because you don't need a reference. 1 1/2 months won't be worth anything anyway, so forget about it when you get your next job. Just wait until the end of the pay period so your last check is square and not some partial that will cause anyone a hassle.

C4Warr10r- It's not psycological issues, it neurological issues. I can't get a note yet because the only doctor that deals with it is out of the office until August. I've been given some meds to help but nothing to stop the issue. Also she made one of the managers work while sick with the flu because she didn't show the symptoms. The woman is nuts.

I've tried thinking of ways to say little without giving much. It's just hard to think of something because it's the main manager that is the problem. You can never tell how she'll handle something. She got mad with another employee and withheld any type of raise for two years (main reason for the one week notice, no the two week one).

Wouldn't work out. I'm leaving the area and the health issues prevent another job like that.

Would love to but one of the managers can give me a good reference (that I kinda need) so I don't want to burn every bridge, though I will happily burn the others.

They're expanding their business. Demolitions and burgers.

Apparently so. Didn't know until I met the psycho manager.

Okay but...who exactly does a Burger King manager have pull with...besides maybe other Burger King managers...unless the other Burger King managers hate him too.

I mean, are you trying to get a job at Burger King corporate one day or something?
If you get fired you can get unemployment, if you quit you cannot. At least in the states I know of.
