Do Thermal Goggles exist in real life ?
Maybe not as good as the ones in Splinter Cell or Metal Gear but do any decent ones exist ?

No kidding. It's civilian equipment. Of course it works, though I have resevations about hunting deer with such enhancements. You already have every natural advantage over a deer, why in the hell would you need enhanced imaging for that?

I’m just saying in principal the concept works, Although I'm not sure how well this would work against a tree line?

How would this have help't you if you were still on active duty?

Military night vision devices are made to be sturdy, not efficient. They work but their main goal is not to break easy at the slightest sign of combat. They are not made to be the best night vision devices, but the most durable. They need to be sturdy, waterproof, durable, THEN be useful.

They have their regular ability which enhances nighttime vision plus you can use special lights and flashlights to enhance your nighttime viewing, which produce light that only the goggles pick up, sorta like a flashlight that you can only see using the goggles. Great for really getting a better view of your nighttime surroundings, bad in that such lights show up easy at night to others using night vision goggles. Nothing of course you have to worry about hunting deer hehe but in war? maybe not something you want to have a flashlight shining in the middle of the night that an enemy soldier with night vision goggles also can see you a mile away.

The way normal night vision goggles work is they amplify minimal light that is still about during the dark. The darker it is, the less night vision goggles work. A clear full moon night gives much better vision than a dark cloudy nighttime. Light enters the goggles, turned into electricity, amplified, then turned back into light so you can see it. Having used them in the army a lot, there were plenty of very dark nights where you still couldn't see much with night vision goggles without using a source of extra light (the goggles built in light source, special flashlights or spotlights, etc).
