Should I join the Marines?
A Marine recruiter came by my school yesterday (recruiters for all branches come in during lunch) and I was just considering the idea of joining the armed forces again. It will be difficult, but I think it would help me with disipline and paying for college.

What do you guys think?

I approve of what the Marines did to my dad and brothers but it was years and years and years ago when they served. The whiny, entitled mama's boy I met recently that claimed to be one must have been a dud so I think even they can't help some people. So you better ask a Marine.
I already asked the recruiter, but that's sort of his job. I might ask some family members about the military then.

I think killing people is a strange thing to consider doing for a living. Or at all, really.

You know that just because you join the army or the marines or whatever, doesn't always mean you'll be out in the battlefield, right? There are other jobs available for people who want to join the military besides combat.

Although politics aside, even if you were out in active combat I don't think the goal is ever to just kill indescriminately.

I think if you have the heart for it, then go for it. :) It's a tough job though, so I wouldn't take it lightly, that's for sure.

Yea, like others have said, C4 will probably tell you best. For me it was the best decision I ever made and obviously life changing. You really can't go wrong, even though you might think you did the first year in lol. Keep in mind there are varying jobs (MOS) that you can score into, and its not all grunts bleeding in the mud with grins on their faces. Some guys watch tv all day and sit in supply offices. POGs are Marines too. It is hard, but not as bad as you would think once you're with a good group of guys/gals no matter what you do. Work hard play hard I guess.. good luck. If you have nothing going in life, I'd say go for it.

edit: If you go infantry, you'll see action and I'll not comment much on that other than to say that when you get out of the Marines (if you don't retire or cross service), the Police Depts will be wary of hiring you in some areas, Border patrol will snatch you up faster than a.... (ok no insensitive puns), and of course there are 3rd party contract options. Other MOS may provide more skills and credits toward tech/college when you get out.

I thought about the Marines, walked in a recruiters station, watched a video, and within 2 days I was on a bus to Paris Island. I suggest you pack your bags and let your family know now that you are thinking about it. Those guys are pretty slick when it comes to getting ♥♥♥♥ done fast.

I would want a career that improves the world, rather than one that makes it worse by contributing the the US's absurd military complex. But hey, I'm not in your shoes.
