Spongebob is bad for children.
According to New York Times, Spongebob throw's kid's Common Sense in the dumpster, plus it has offending scenes, and offending backwards messages (According to youtube), it also makes their education low... If I were a parent I would simply make them watch another show, like Gravity Falls because Gravity Falls has a great storyline, and it teaches us lesson's plus the character's treat each other like a team, Some Cartoon Network shows also have some situations where kid's can start acting right, though the only thing I would not watch if I were you would be Teen Titans Go, and Uncle Grandpa, I'd rather watch regular show, steven universe and Gumball instead... SPONGEBOB IS THE STUPIDEST SHOW EVER... well if you count ren and stimpy, 2ND STUPIDEST SHOW EVER!!!

I didn't study well due to the fact the sponge's laugh was distracting me...
Isn't that your fault then for being distracted. You could of turned off your tv.

Can't blame himself, gotta point fingers at something else, and that's where spongebob comes in.

He gave up his rights to a fair trial when he started his post with "According to New York Times..." and ended by insulting Ren & Stimpy.
A friend's mother once call my mom when I was young, she (my friend's mother) was horrified because see think sponge Bob promotes homosexuality, my mother was like 'umm k'
BTW they were really Christian

I guess they have never seen Teletubbies? A TV show designed for young children to develop 5 second repeat attention spans, running around in circles, screaming in a very limited language.

Spongebob is at least designed in a way to hint at certain aspects of child to adult life...

The characters represents the seven deadly sins:
- Patrick is sloth
- Squidward is wrath
- Mr. Krabs is greed
- Plankton is envy
- Gary is gluttony
- Sandy is pride
- SpongeBob is lust

Each character is also based onto mental disorders:
- SpongeBob has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Patrick has eating disorders
- Squidward has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Sandy is narcissistic
- Mr. Krabs is “impulsive with obsessive fixations”
- Plankton has depression
- Gary has various anxiety disorders

It's based in nuclear fallout waters. In 1946, several nuclear devices detonated over the Pacific Ocean island Bikini Atoll, creating radiation.

The places are all sexual references.

How would this affect a kid? Well perhaps the worst it could do, would be allowing hyper, obsessive, or even homosexual kids to express themselves more. I can see why some parents could be concerned, but the kid would of probably been that way to start off with anyways. I wouldn't say it's promoting it, but rather suggesting it's acceptable and relatable.

As for lowing education, well umm, perhaps if you have the TV as the kid's babysitter. This just depends on the time spent, ignoring homework and watching tv instead. Doesn't really matter what they watch. Little Enstein might teach them a bit, while Spongebob, like many other tv shows, will just entertain and keep them busy.

That's an interesting deconstruction. I think the "Spongebob makes your kids gay!" thing that Doge said his friend's Mom claimed is totally crazytown though.

Most kids' shows follow a very cliche "learn a lesson" formula. Most of these are pretty in your face. Spongebob is a bit more subtle with their moral lessons and more just plain, stupid fun.

The point is a tv show like Spongebob wouldn't make a kid gay... but there's just a chance it would just make a gay kid show it more perhaps or another kid be okay with it. It's playing it as an acceptable behaviour, rather than closet case it up, something to hide. Which is what some parents are so offended by. They don't want to even consider a possibly their kid is discovering they are different.

If anything, it's just promoting a tolerance of diversity as a moral lesson. That diversity is already there.

looky here a counterargument

1: You believe the youtube conspiracy theorists?
I mean really
"TYPE 58008 ON A CALCULATOR
IT SAYS BOOBS WHEN YOU TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN
ALL CALCULATORS ARE SEXIST CONFIRMED"
no.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc_BJMwAIiU

2: How is Gravity Falls better for kids? are you implying it doesn't have backwards messages?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjXIWQ9sHLo
It sure does!
The iluminati symbol as a character (who wants to wreak havoc all over everything), secret societies, and backwards messages hidden subtly in every episode
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVAhW4ToLFI

3: Teen Titans Go!
Really.
That's better than Spongebob?
"Yeah, that's way better for the kiddies"
There's an episode consisting entirely of repeatedly saying the word waffles. Is that better?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NBSGKIJ2E8
No. It isn't.

4:Uncle Grandpa
I'll let this slide, but don't act surprised when you see a triangle with one eye scattered all around that show, too.
I've seen it.

5: did you really just use three exclamation marks?

I'm not sure if I should be taking you seriously or not.
You know your argument will go down the sh*tter when you do that.
