I just adopted a Bearded Dragon

His owner had to get rid of him. hes 3 years old. i named him Lord Leafy in respect to the Leafyishere. But i dont know what to feed him. Im also lacking in money so i cant really afford food for him. what can i do.

I found some spiders in the back yard and he ate 2 and then kind of watched me for 5 minutes. My friend says she knows about these cool guys. wish i could afford time for him but im a busy dude and i have school and work and responsibilities. ill update eventually to let you know how hes doing.

Turns out a few of the spiders i fed Leafy the lizard actually bit him and no one knew about it. so Leafy is dead. Rest in Peace Leafy the Lizard

Scroll down to your state, call them, and find some way to get the animal to them (gofundme might work for travel expenses). You'll be rid of it, and hopefully someone who actually wants one and knows how to care for it will take it in.

Take him to your nearest pet store or vetinary.
You are in no position to accept responsiblity for such a creature so should not be doing so.

FYI, putting the Dragon into the freezer would kill it. In a fairly painful way.

Yeah I agree with Okami, animals should have good owners.

For the love of god please change the name, leafy is a dooshbag and isn't funny, and I love bearded dragons. This is IMO. Back to the situation, do you know any neighbors that can take care of it or any friends? I read online that don't put the lizard on fake sand, if it eats it accidentally it could kill it. They like crickets, sometimes it's good to put vitamins on the crickets. If you have no choice give it to an animal shelter. I wish you and that lizard good luck.

Saying my opinion instead of in my opinion would make it sound much better and flow nicer.

We have two bearded dragons in our household.

Alright, a bit of direct info for you, OP.

Bearded Dragons are native to Australia, a bit like me.

They're territorial, so sometimes they'll rear up and make faces at you. When that happens, just give 'em some space and come back later. That applies to all animals from housecats to elephants, if the animal says "leave me alone" - you leave it alone until it calms down or chances are you get bitten.

They're Reptiles. That means they can't warm their own blood. If they get too cold, they die. Keep it warm by putting it in the hottest room in the house with maximum direct sunlight - they evolved for a really hot climate and need to be kept hot. If you keep it, you'll need UV light tubes and/or a heater to keep it warm in winter.

Don't give it blankets or clothes or anything like that. Warm clothes work for Mammals like us because we can warm ourselves from the inside - we generate our own heat, and that heat gets retained by the clothing. Reptiles can't, putting a cold Reptile in a blanket won't make it any warmer.

They're Omnivores. They eat a mix of plants and bugs. Don't just feed them crickets, give them Squash and Endives every now and then. And maybe a carrot as a treat They need a balanced diet, just like you. You can get a month's supply of crickets for about $20, so they are at least a cheap pet to care for.
