Well, it's definitely the best anime in the entire database, hence why it's #1. There are also several other websites out there that hold ratings for it, and they rate it extremely highly as well. And anyone IRL who I know has watched it also says it's one of the best, if not the best, anime of all time.

That's one anime. But if you look at the top animes on the list, you'll clearly see the top animes are very deserving of their spots. One Punch Man, Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso, Gintama, FMA:B, Steins;Gate, HxH, Clannad, Code Geass... The list goes on and on.

Never heard of Afro Samurai. I can agree, SAO doesn't deserve that high of a spot, but it definitely doesn't deserve an incredibly low score, either. It's not a 100% terrible anime, but it's not necessarily deserving of that high of a ranking.

Yeah. FMA was alright. I honestly preferred the first series and movie over Brotherhood. The first movie was badass. Is it the best? Not particularly. If I were going to argue for a best, it would be one that anime and non-anime fans can all point to and say "THAT WAS AWESOME!" Something like Cowboy Bebop.

Macross Frontier
Outlaw Star
Baccano!
Kabaneri and the Iron Fortress (Thanks all you super persistent anime fans. I watched it. It was great)

Best is quite subjective If I simply went with what everyone has been saying for two decades, Bebop wins best anime hands down.
