Am I the only one who feels like mods are power hungry or just not nice people?
First of all, so that a moderator doesn't pull a reason out of a hat to give me another week long community suspension, or close this thread, HERE IS A LIST OF ALL OF THE RULES ON POSTING THREADS AND WHATNOT!

Rules and Guidelines For Steam: Discussions, Reviews, and User Generated Content
These guidelines apply to all places in the Steam Store and Community where users can post content. This includes, but is not limited to, discussions, comments, guides, product reviews, screenshots, artwork, videos, tags, Steam Workshop, and Steam Greenlight.
When providing feedback, posting information, or discussing a product in Steam, whether it’s negative or positive, please make sure you are being relevant, constructive and polite. Developers take feedback from all kinds of sources into account, even though they may not have the time to respond to every post or question.
Please note that Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to change/edit/delete/move/merge any content at any time if they feel it is inappropriate, abusive, or incorrectly categorized.
All users are subject to the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Steam Online Conduct.
General Rules
Do not do any of the following:
Flame or insult other members
Bypass any filters
Abuse or encourage abuse of the Reputation, or Post Reporting Systems
Post personally identifiable information (i.e. name, address, email, phone number, etc.)
Bump threads
Derail a thread's topic
Post links to phishing sites
Post spam (i.e. +1, 10char, rickrolls) or Re-post Closed, Modified, Deleted Content
Repetitively post in the incorrect forum (example: trade requests belong in trading forum)
Openly argue with a moderator
Artificially manipulate the User Review system or voting/rating systems
Off-Limit Topics/Replies
Do not post any topics/replies containing the following:
Porn, inappropriate or offensive content, warez or leaked content or anything else not safe for work
Any discussion of piracy will result in a permanent ban from the Steam Community including, but not limited to:
Cracks
Key generators
Console emulators
Cheating, hacking, game exploits
Threats of violence or harassment, even as a joke
Posted copyright material such as magazine scans
Soliciting, begging, auctioning, raffling, selling, advertising, referrals
Racism, discrimination
Abusive language, including swearing
Drugs and alcohol
Religious, political, and other “prone to huge arguments” threads

Now, with that out of the way, I feel that steam community moderators have the ability to do good and help others but in my own personal experience, i've never been helped and only wronged by moderators. I am not trying to start an argument, SO PLEASE KEEP IT CIVIL IN THE COMMENTS SECTION! I am not saying F Steam mods, or that they do no good, I just feel like a lot of them abuse their power a lot. I am not going to name any mods, just for them to keep their privacy, but i'd like to explain a few reasons why.

1. Last week I posted a thread on a hardware forum here on steam, asking about how to fix my brand new logitech g430's static/white noise problem. I had posted similiar threads in the past and have had people come on with reddit comments, to comment farm by saying absolutely ridiculous and pointless, timewasting things such as TL:DR, and TL:DC. I left a comment (I admit, I used foul language) saying that they are wasting my time and their own, but I didn't directly call anyone out, or use hate/racist speech, I simply incorporated a few cuss words into my thread, and when I logged on the next morning, instead of a warning post by a mod or anything similar to that, I had a 7 day ban. I could not see who the banning mod was, and I couldn't understand why I was banned for an entire week from the steam forums, when I have seen other people get off of the hook after using HATE SPEECH AND RACISM! I had also hurt no one's feelings because the people who replied to my thread either read and ignored my comment or totally disregarded it. No one felt offended but the mod, and I couldn't understand why. Now, how was I supposed to answer any technical questions by people who were replying to my thread? I found this quite ridiculous, and needless to say this problem is still going on, and I've tried everything to fix it, but that's okay, because a mod got their power fix. The mod should have realized that I was not there to offend anyone and just let me off with a warning, but instead I could not use the steam forums for a week. Thanks!

2. Mods are always acting like they're above the rest of the steam users by talking down or straight up beliddling them. Again, this does not apply to ALL MODS, just the mods i've seen. They have this horrible attitude that they're better than everyone else because they can ban you from commenting on a videogame platform. They've in a respect, become like a lot of today's cops. They were created to help people but instead it seems like anyone who tries to receive help from them gets the blunt end of their horrible, unfit to be mod behaviors.

3. I have multiple times, asked a mod for help regarding a game, a thread, and countless other things and they shrug me off like i'm wasting their time. They forget that the reason they're moderators is so that they can help the community, not so they can treat them as second class citizens.

I can go on and on and on, but then people won't read it. Leave your HONEST and MATURE thoughts about this thread and mods in the comments section, and for a final time PLEASE BE ADULTS ABOUT IT!

Also, before a mod gets offended because someone criticized them, I read through the rules thoroughly and broke none of them.

I would also like to ask, since obviously a mod is going to read this,
why you're not allowed to openly argue with a mod. Who is that rule supposed to protect? The mod? Come on, if they can't take criticism they shouldn't be mods.

This can be seen as arguing against moderation, a thread prone to huge arguments, and a rant. All grounds for them to lock or delete a thread.

Also, you should note that they are able to "change/edit/delete/move/merge any content at any time if they feel it is inappropriate, abusive, or incorrectly categorized." Meaning that the list is not the be all and end all of rules and possible infractions.
There's this misconception going around that mods are supposed to answer questions and dole out wizened advice.
Here's the fact: The sole purpose of a moderator is to enforce the rules. Anything beyond that, they do out of the goodness of their hearts. It is not actually required of them.

Assuming that openly arguing with a mod would mean arguing in that thread, the thread would get derailed.

that's all a matter of perspective. This isn't an argument thread, and i'm not going to make it one. I'm just trying to gather opinions

This isn't an argument thread, and if you can understand the context of it, you can clearly see it's not meant to be. I will not reply to anyone else calling it one as I do not wish for it to get prematurely locked/deleted (I know it will). This is also not openly arguing with moderation because an argument is a 2 way street. I am simply stating my opinions, which happen to have a not so bright light towards moderators. That is all. Please do not leave any comments other than your honest opinions of the steam mods, and remember, KEEP IT MATURE!

Thanks!
most moderators i've seen do a good job, i've only had one occurance of either abuse or a misunderstanding

I feel like, unless you repeatedly agitate them, they're actually pretty cool for the most part. I've never had a run-in with a mod, and god knows I've derailed more than my fair share of threads.

Most experiences i've had with a mod were just minor inconveniences which made me think little of them. But last week when I received a week long forum ban for something that without prior warning, doesn't seem like would warrant such a punishment, made me completely change my perspective of steam mods.

As i've said in previous threads, i've seen people slide with using derrogatory racist terms (which i will not actually type out) refferring to black, asian, and jewish men. My comment was not aimed at anyone nor was malice intended.

This sort of thread comes up from time to time and the response that I've seen given is that a temporary ban is a warning. You said yourself that you used off color language that falls into the "don't use abusive language including swearing" category. From what I've seen, if you aren't aiming a swear word at a user and it gets filtered there is no harm done and mods let it go. If you start swearing at people and/or bypass the filter to do so they'll get you.

Which forum was it?

The hardware forum, but when I received my ban it applied to ALL steam forums. I'd also like to mention again it was an "asking for help" thread.

Seems the only opinions you want are negative, intent on attacking moderators, as above in your first post and below:

You're being argumentative, arguing against moderation that you've received, and insulting mods all in one go.

Not arguing here, just thinking it's funny because I didn't bypass the filter or anything like that, it was totally censored out, and instead of a mod leaving a comment like "hey bro don't say stuff like that, if I catch you again you're gonna get a temp ban" I got a surprise week long ban. I just felt like that was a little harsh for the violation I committed

Well, since I'm not a mod, I have no way of looking at whatever you posted to earn your forum ban, so this is all rather one-sided, isn't it? You say your ban was unjust, but you can only give us one side of the story.
