is the ps3 backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games?
I understand that old ps3 models were backwards compatible but I can't seem to figure out if it can ps2 and ps3 games only. Anyone know exactly?

All ps3's can play PSone games. Only the original PS3 (the "Fat"one) can play PS2 discs.

Correct, the "Fat" PS3 can play PS1/2/3 discs.

I recall some fat models not being able to play PS1/2 games when the PS3 first released.
I heard that the PS3 can play PS1 and PS2 games but can't use PS1 memory cards?

Doesn't the PS3 have it's own memory thing inside the console itself or does it still use cards. Seem's a little unlikely

It doesn't use real memory cards, you make fake memory cards that are stored on the hard drive.

Correct, the "Fat" PS3 can play PS1/2/3 discs.

Only the first 2 "generations" of the "fat" Playstation 3 (CECHBxx, CECHAxx, CECHCxx and CECHExx) could play retail PS2 discs.

The only way to play PS2 games on the later models are the digital versions you can buy on the PSN store.

You can use real PSX and PS2 memory cards if you have the memory card adapter (CECHZM1).
But it can only read from official sony memory cards, 3rd party memory cards won't work.
