My favorite uppity term is water closet.

I have never heard someone say that in the part I live in, I feel that's a very regional thing

Holdover from chamber pots, which were sometimes kept in their own closet as they made places smell like a bog.

The Loo if you are a bit posh.
the loo is different, and I found the supposed origins of that being some politician who would spew a bunch of crap and whos name ended in "loo" cenenting them in history as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... the british sure have class lol

It’s a reference to Waterloo, which had a lot of sodden ground and trousers.

This origin tends to be de-emphasized as coalition forces wished to portray the battle as being less chaotic than it was.

Because it's where you rinse your bellend after a jolly soiling.

Because we do
From 'Boghouse' - slang for an outhouse. Likening the cesspit/latrine to a 'bog' (swamp).
We actually have many names for it.

The bathroom
The toilet
The loo
The bog
The Khazi
The swanny
The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
The Gary Glitter

There's probably more, as slang varies depending on where you are in the country.
When me and my friends get drunk, we call it The Pisser.

I suppose whats produced in there can be wet and stinky.
Why do Americans call the toilets a rest room? Does it have a sofa or bed in there?
Actually they did used to have sofas and chairs in an adjacent area, which is why they were called that, the name just stuck after they stopped having that feature.
Bruce Bogtrotter! You slithered like a serpent into the teacher's lounge and ate MY personal snack! Do you deny it?

For real, that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid.
Most people don't. It's a rather unacceptable slang term that is really old, dating back to times when a toilet wasn't much more than a hole in the ground. The more accepted and widely used is "loo" which is derived from the French term for toilets - lieux d'aisances.
They call French Fries "chips" and potato ships, "crisps." The brit's slang has never made sense. It's a silly place, best give it no attention

We call thinly cut chips "french fries" (or just fries), chips are thicker cut. We call crisps "crisps" because we invented them.

I'm British, and I don't call the toilet that. Usually its the "lav" for me.

I know some very rough British chavs who do call it that.
