It's a tiny spider doing the webbing around the '1', placed there for counterfeit checking... the fakes show up as an owl instead.

No. The same image is usually interpreted as either a spider or an owl. Once you see it, you can pull a dollar out of you wallet, look at it, and see how someone could see both. Unless you can't pull a dollar out of your wallet, since you live somewhere else.

It is one of the very few anti theft items included on a one dollar bill, since counterfeiting ones is a VERY low priority target for counterfeiting. It is just a super tiny detail. Just like nothing else on the bill, it has no SECRET meaning.

Not to mention every few years, new printing plates need to be engraved. And the owl is still there. So either there is a some major joke going on with the plate engravers, or it could as you say be an anti-conterfeit measure.

To go along with you again, like you said, nobody would counterfeit a $1. It would take too much time and effort for such a small payout. I doubt the Government wouldn't understand this by now.

And yet the frigin owl is still around. I'm thinking this is an inside joke of some kind honestly.

The owl on the $1 is very tiny and you need a magnifying lens to see it clearly.
