Anyone else as sick of AAA gaming as I am?
I certainly am. That's why I've been playing older games, mostly from GOG, as of late.

I prefer older games for their better gameplay. New games feel too much like interactive movies, plus the pandering to causals. You know: the 12-year-old boys who only play Call of Duty and Madden (or FIFA if you're European).

Just compare the Star Wars games of old (specifically Battlefront II) to the new Battlefront. I rest my case.

COMPLETELY overlooking my statement that nearly 100% of the games I listed do not even have a review on Gamespot.

How can one think that things like that do not have a HUGE ripple effect on what people know.
That's an inherent part of the problem -- indie titles don't get the kind of exposure that well-marketed AAA titles do. So they're less likely to come to the attention of gaming publications in the first place. Sure, said publications have a choice, but are they really going to choose to cover some lesser-known indie games when, say, much of their readership is expecting them to have something to say about Dark Souls and CS:GO and Uncharted?

which is in part why when people say 'yeah but those games are highly regarded in the industry' with the implication being I should like them even though I dont.
Really dosent mean much to me.

But yes..when you as a journalist are going to a PR party every night for all the 1st party games your view of what is out there is different then mine

case in point, in my ecosystem what is everyone talking about on every corner and on ever channel? Rim World

Yeah.
Pretty much every new AAA game gets hyped to infinity and then it sucks (e.g. The Division, Battlefront etc)

I don't dislike all AAA games though I am annoyed that many of them have some sort of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ marketing like a season pass, DLC that came out earlier than it should or microtransactions.

Luckily we don't have to deal with that stuff on Nintendo's consoles (mostly).
Doesn't Smash have DLCs?

In any case, when I see stuff like a bunch of DLCs for extra bits of the story or such, that simply means "don't buy this game until a year later, when it's all done and complete". (And that's assuming that I like the game in the first place, which isn't a certainty.)

Each of our contexts is different.

Right now, here's my current situation re gaming:

Currently playing:
* Pokémon Crystal (with a mod that lets me fill the pokédex in one savefile without trading)
* Unepic
* Mighty No. 9
* Sage Fusion

Some choices for what to play soon/next:
* The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
* Magical Vacation (GBA)
* A Witch's Tale (second playthrough) (DS)
* Tales of Symphonia

Four other games I plan on playing in the near future:
* Dragon Age: Origins
* Neverwinter Nights 2
* LiEat
* Shantae 1 or Shantae: Risky's Revenge

And two commercially-important categories:

Some games that are out now but which I haven't bought because I don't have the right system to play them on:
* Splatoon
* Ico

Some games whose release I'm looking forward to:
* Legend of Iya
* Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

As should be pretty obvious, I'm consuming games in a context that is quite different from what either you or the "mainstream" gaming publications.

let me try this again

Person 1: 'you should like those AAA games I listed they are regarded in the industry as good games'
Person 2: 'I think the so called 'industry' you refer to is a not very good because they do not even recognize my favorite games as existing so how would they even know
Person 1: 'doesnt matter you should still consider those AAA games I listed as good because they are regarded in the industry as good games'

that is where we are now

Well, I'm sure a little fed up by Assassin's Creed. The more heartwarming/interesting stories as of recent are from low budget productions. AAAs can be boring in a way, guess the "casualizing" of them is part of the problem.

I don't think that is the problem, afaik they have/had each team work on their game a couple years.

I agree that one should not be obligated to play a game just because it's well-regarded. I personally have little interest in playing a number of famous, well-regarded games.

In fact, I can agree that at least some of them are good games, but I won't go out of my way to play them.
Look the point is, a game is not guaranteed to be bad just because it's triple a. Witcher III is a game EVERYONE can agree is good, you know, if you've played it

Lots of people have been talking about 12-year-olds. I know they are annoying on the mic, are they also tryhards?

Even though this might sound hypocritical coming from me, a lot of them are. They use their dank memes and stupid ♥♥♥♥ like that and try to sound cool

No. There will never be a game that everyone will agree is good, and, while Witcher 3 gets plenty of praise, there are many people who don't like it.
I was exaggerating, but you're going to have a hard time finding someone who truly dislikes it. I was just trying to prove a point. And 'many' is subjective

Not really. Just look at the negative Steam user reviews. Sure, the positive reviews outnumber them by an insane amount, but there are still quite a few.
Well, yeah if you look at it purely as a number, not as a ratio. For such a popular game, it matters. Do YOU like it? Based on odds I will assume you do. Please be honest
Don't forget, many negative reviews are 'buy the game stop looking here', game crashes, and difficulty (the game is easy tho).

I think it's an alright game. I haven't finished it, but I've enjoyed it so far. However, that's irrelevant to the fact that not everybody will like it.

It's certainly not a perfect game either. The combat, in my opinion, is kinda clunky, and the movement feels awkward at times.
I agree. Still one of the greats IMO
